AF ROTC HSSP Outstanding Candidate Opportunity?

My DD got a request for a virtual meeting for Monday with the Commander of the one Detachment about an opportunity. It is driving us nuts what it may be. Any ideas? She is scheduled for February board and this Commander during her interview in December told her she was the only candidate he had interviewed so far he would even want at his detachment. FWIW his detachment is usually in the top 5-10 ranked nationally. She applied to the school after the interview (wasn’t on her original list because to her it is too close to home (same state!😂)) and is still waiting an admission decision.

When my DS received a voicemail from the Commander of the Detachment at his top choice school we were all very curious/anxious too! When he returned the call, DS was offered the Commander’s scholarship, which is a Type 1 scholarship. Fingers crossed for your DD!

Do you mean the school is a Top 5-10 ranked, or the detachment? I haven't seen detachments ranked. But it sounds exciting for your daughter. Perhaps the commander has some pull with admissions?.

detachment...when i have stumbled across statistics....school is a large national university
 
Can't recall where I found this DoD presentation, but here's a screen grab of the slide comparing the largest detachments by officer production -- not necessarily the best, but among the large detachments, these are the most prominent.

Aside from the SMCs, the biggest producers include:
- Purdue, Penn State, U. Virginia and Arizona State across the board
- Notre Dame, Villanova and NC State for NROTC
- Embry-Riddle, U. Central Florida, U. Colorado and UT San Antonio for AFROTC

Anecdotally, for AFROTC, other large producers include Colorado State, U. Washington, U. Maryland, and Ohio State as well as NC State.

How did things go on Monday? Eventually/ when ready if you want, please Let the board know.

DD believes he was offering the CSL. The Commander said she'd be hearing from him in the next few days. But the one thing I asked her was did she have to pull her national board and she said he didn't say so and that he didn't give her a date she had to respond. He does know that USAFA is still her #1 but she said if she had to go ROTC she could see herself at his school. We did a drive by over the weekend (2 hours from home) and though none of us had ever been there before we were all surprised by how beautiful it truly was. Go figure. I'll keep you posted!

Follow up, the detachment is one of the top producers from the stats shared earlier. And not a SMC.
