I’m visiting the academy next Monday with my family after having done virtual summer seminar earlier this summer. Is there any way for me to access the cadet area or is it forbidden for civilians? Do I need to be accompanied by a cadet?

Start your research at the official source.

We were pretty surprised how locked down the cadet area is, especially in comparison to other service academies. During a PCS move, we stopped at USAFA for DD to visit. It's not just civilians that can't access the cadet area, active duty members cannot access it as well. The wall near the chapel did give a general overview of the cadet area and we were able to see them below. However, not sure if that area is even accessible anymore with the chapel in construction mode. I recall after DD got an appointment, there was a link or an invite to a virtual tour that was pretty good and thought it covered the cadet area. Not sure if these were the same tours, but a quick glance and it looks like they have a list of virtual tours that are still available.

You can still see the cadet area from the honor wall, but the other side of the chapel that you could normally go on is a construction zone.
