My DS just received his AFOQT scores yesterday (1st test), he scored a 95+ in each section of the exam except Pilot, which was 91, he's on cloud nine. One note for test takers out there, he said used an online study guide with practice questions/exams, however he said it felt fell short on questions pertaining to USAF history, which was part of the Pilot section, he wants to take it again before Field Training selection.

Congrats! Those are great scores! Any reason for the retest? Unless they changed it recently, it's graded off of percentile of test takers meaning that he scored better than 95% of all other test takers in everything except pilot. Getting a 100 on everything means you literally had the best test score. I'd have him talk with his Cadre before retaking it because it honestly may not be worth the stress haha. Additionally, there's a 150-day wait between test attempts so unless your DS is a Freshmen, he won't be able to take it again before the PSP board

Thanks! His cadre Captain suggested to take it again to get his pilot score up and he really expressed about taking it again anyway, fortunately he doesn't get stressed about standardized tests, he did very well on the SAT/ACT and said the AFOQT was like a "light" version of those college entrance exams with the exception of the pilot section where you obviously need some aviation knowledge to do well.

I'm curious what year your son is? My son is taking it in a couple weeks as a freshman. Seems early but Cadre is encouraging it for some reason.

He's a second year, he didn't have time his freshman year because he was in study abroad, but his friend who attends Penn State took it his freshman year and did just as well as he did. The AF wants you to start early so you get familiar with it so you can get your score up going forward. It stands to reason though, that as you progress with school and have taken courses like Calc and Physics III, your math skills will get a lot sharper and that will help you sail through the math on the QT. As my DS said, if your DS or DD performed well on the SAT/ACT, the QT is a walk in the park, it's just the pilot section, that's if you want to be a pilot, that you have to study aviation principals and some history.

You're very welcome. We are very proud.....training is almost complete in that big and beautiful aircraft. It's been a long 6/7 years (from AFROTC TO UPT)--- but it's almost done!
