AFROTC HS Scholarship Deadlines & PFA

Hi,

I am a senior in High School and am in the process of applying for an AFROTC scholarship.

My first question,
I recently saw this thread that stated “If an applicant's school is virtual, they are permitted to have a parent/guardian administer the PFA.”

My school was on a rotating schedule for the first week where 1 day was in person and 1 day was Virtual. Just recently we have had about a dozen COVID cases in the town and this caused the school to go Virtual for (at least) the next 2 weeks. I plan on doing my PFA within the next 2 weeks, so
Would I be allowed to have a parent administer the PFA given the circumstances or should I attempt to get a coach/teacher to do it?

My second question,
When is the latest I can submit my scholarship app for AFROTC where it can still be reviewed for the 1st board which meets October 19th?

I have filled out everything on the application except the PFA. I just need to do the PFA and interview.
So if I were to get my PFA scores in by let’s say Sept. 30, would I still be able have an interview and then be reviewed for the 1st board?

thanks.

My DS completed his AFROTC application on August 19th. This included the PFA. He received an email the next day that a local detachment would be contacting him within 20 days to schedule the interview. He has received a 2nd email that now states 40 days due to technical issues. He has yet to hear anything regarding an interview. I don't think he'll make the first board. Not sure if this is the situation across all applicants...

What state is he in? Maybe this is just a regional detachment issue and some are more backed up than others.

No, it's everybody. Heck, I'm living in Mexico right now and I've heard nothing about an interview. Best guess is that they'll contact us around Sept. 24th for this.

It's an HQ-wide issue at the moment.

I completed my application in early August, except for the Fitness Assessment. Due to COVID I had no access to a track and my PE teacher was not available. I finally completed the assessment last Monday. Within 24 hours a representative from the State U called me to set up the interview for this week. It will be a panel and in person by the way.

Was this for AFROTC?

Judging by their response, and the fact that I was just contacted by AFROTC myself, I think the individual units are now reaching out to applicants. If you have not heard anything from them within, say, two weeks, definitely have your DS contact his scholarship technician.

If HQ said you could have your parent administer it, then go for it. No reason to wait for a coach, especially with COVID.

So if I were to get my PFA scores in by let’s say Sept. 30, would I still be able have an interview and then be reviewed for the 1st board?

It could, but remember this- after you submit your entire application, it will take a little while for it all to process. You'll get a confirmation email, and you'll be placed on a list for them to contact you for an interview. The catch is, it will take a couple weeks at least for them to schedule this with you. So if you are completing the PT part on Sept. 30, you likely would have an interview sometime near the first board. In your case, I don't know if you'd make the first board, but there are always more boards. Hopefully you found this helpful.

Yeah that helps a lot. Thanks
