Age requirement for Army ROTC Scholarship

Hey everyone! I was talking to a National Guard recruiter in school today, and he said that since I am 16, I will not be able to accept any Army ROTC scholarships until I turn 17 next summer. It was my understanding that my age was fine since I will be 17 at the time I enter college in fall 2022. Does anyone have info on this? I know the scholarship boards will not let me wait that long to accept an offer so he kind of made me freak out a little.

According to the AROTC instructions, you are correct. It is always a good idea to go straight to a published source. Recruiters don't always know the rules outside of their area.

From the general eligibility section of the AROTC application.

• At least 17 years of age within the 1st semester of the year you enter college.
