Hi,
This year AIM Academy looks a little different with COVID restrictions. The first week will be virtual and followed by 2 in person weeks. Does anyone know how many people will be allowed in each in person session? TIA

1750 applied to AIM. They are looking at 210 per in person session and 300-350 for the virtual session.

Any idea when USCGA will be sending out the email today? I’m a little concerned because it’s first come, first served, and DD will be in AP review sessions today and her teachers won’t be too happy with her if she’s constantly watching her email! 😆

I know what you mean. And daughter is waitlisted since email showed up while she was taking a nap. Really hoping she'll make it to the session eventually.

haha I almost made that mistake also. I was going to take a nap, but I saw people were anxious for signing up, so I just waited until it came out, signed up, and napped. I'm happy I got it!

Congratulations! Good luck and have a great time! :)

Quick question. Why on earth make the registration such a crap shoot? In particular, the two in-person sessions were waitlisted within two hours of the registration link going out. It seems to me that kids should have been assigned a session if they were admitted. Slots could have been allocated in the order in which admissions occurred then if people couldn't make it, the spot would go to the next person. Frustrating after the delayed wait for the admissions decision (May 5 vs. April 30 - I think he applied in March).

It would've been the same outcome though. The admission would have to choose and I would think that majority wouldn't want to do online. This would lead to the same scenario where majority of the students/parents would be complaining about the admissions process and how unfair it would be. I think the academy decided that it would best to hand the responsibility to the students, but didn't realize that it would've filled up that quickly. (frankly I didn't either) I also think it boosted for how it quick it filled up since this s the only SA with an inperson summer program. That is also why it was delayed. I feel as if they had alot more applicants than they thought they were getting. This is why they extended the deadline to get more of an accurate look at each applicant. I could be wrong, but I think the registration was as fair as if the admissions chose

Is n=210 truly the upper bound on the number of participants that could realistically be accommodated on campus? Also, are those admission numbers typical (n=770 admitted out of 1750 applicants)? Shame that 45% are effectively being forced to attend virtually. Hoping for wiggle room on the in-person sessions...thanks!

There are a limited number of cadre assigned to AIM for the summer. It isn't so much about accommodations. It is about providing the best experience for those that are in-person while keeping it to a number that is realistic for the number of cadre that will be in charge of the AIMsters during their week on campus.
