AIM Selections?

My students received the same email. Decision today after 5 pm ET. Good luck!

By the way, there are other great ways to see USCGA and/or the other Service Academies, if you are not selected for AIM. One good route is by attending one of the CGA summer sports camps. Many of my students have participated in them across all of the SAs. Students stay in the dorms, eat in the mess hall, meet cadets and staff, and they also work with the coaching staff.

USCGA has summer sports camps?
 
Mine was selected for the virtual session and waitlisted for an in-person spot. DS took it more or less as a rejection. Is it worth attending? What does it mean to get the virtual option?
 
DS now a 2026 rising 3c also selected to virtual. Absolutely NOT a rejection.

Zoom interview most likely during the week. This is important.

DS interview during virtual session interrupted by a tornado warning, never missed a beat. While family moved downstairs , he kept on chatting throughout the alert. I still chuckle.

CGA always gets way more qualified applicants than they can fit into the 3 in-person sessions. While the in-person sessions definitely are the only way to really get a feel for swab summer, the virtual sessions still provide a lot of great information. I would not take it as a rejection. Plus, there may be a few people who get pulled from the virtual session later if some of the in-person selectees can't attend. And you always see many people posting who were not selected for an in-person AIM, but who were offered an appointment the following year when they applied.
 
My son was slated for virtual. We realized they had his transcripts incorrectly entered. We talked to the academy and they ended up moving him to session three. Not sure if the corrected grades did it. I can say that the kid had USNA in the lead until swab summer. He had a a lot of type two fun really hit it off with his company and the cadre. I think that was the deciding factor for him. It was such a memorable experience. He stayed in contact with kids in his company and the cadre. When he went back to AEP he knew incoming swabs and cadre.
 
DS also got the virtual option. He is disappointed, but not devistated. Navy is at the top of the list, but wanted to see what the Coast Guard was about.
 
Virtual. Even though in-person session would be a preference, I am happy that my child is going to have an interview and can put his attendance record on the application later. And I save $750

"Is it worth attending"? I think that sends a clear signal to admissions if he decides it's not worth it to him and rejects this offer because it's "only" virtual. I totally understand being disappointed, but it just doesn't come across like he has a strong desire to attend CGA with this attitude. Just sayin...

I know what you’re saying. He actually got into the USNA summer seminar, so he will be attending that one. He applied to AIM because he’s a USMMA hopeful. They don’t have a summer program so they recommend attending AIM instead. Hence, the “not sure it’s worth it.” I thought maybe he’d be inspired to also consider the USCGA if he attended AIM, but this is truly his decision. Mom and dad are supportive but not driving the bus. He would have liked to have done both camps in person. He is thankful for what he did get.
