Air Assault

Have the option to go to ASSLT at USMA or Ft Campbell. Is one preferable over the other? Would be pretty cool and I’m assuming more of a challenge to do it at the home of the 101st, while West Point may be more laid back even though their instructors are from Campbell. Figuring they may just be erring on the side of passing all the Cadets at West Point.

Train with 101st Airborne Division. Experience the history and customs of the Screaming Eagles 🦅. Airborne!

Take this with a massive grain of salt because it is hear-say:

My understanding is that the AASLT course at Campbell has the highest pass rate of any of the other locations. This does not necessarily mean that Campbell is easier, but it is something to consider. I am going this summer as well (not sure where yet), so I am trying to figure out the same thing.

Why would the instructors from Ft. Campbell adjust there criteria for their training based on where they are physically conducting the class?

Why not go to Campbell? You get to see a different post and take a course with "real" soldiers. When I was a cadet 25+ years ago we went to Campbell for AA school. I still remember going to Campbell O Club with all my cadet buddies and having a great time.

Clarksville, Tenn. Stationed there for three years. went through the AA course while there. If going in the summer keep in mind it will be hotter there than in Highland Falls.

Ordering a pair of summer OCPs

The one at West Point is taught by Cadre from Ft Campbell, so no different from the one there. It’s attended by Cadets and active duty soldiers.
It comes down to what you might want to see before and after. Clarksville, TN and Nashville, or upstate NY and NYC.

Don’t be fooled into thinking one is easier than the other. Be prepared to work hard and meet the challenges you will face at either location.

You may never get another opportunity to see West Point, you will however see many other military bases in your career. All have their own cool history, just none like the USMA.

My son completed Air Assault at West Point last summer as an AROTC cadet.

He enjoyed bunking with the USMA cadets and comparing SA vs ROTC experiences.

Feel blessed that you have this opportunity. It seems that these slots are far and few between these days for ROTC Cadets. My sons unit only got a few slots and the majority that want to go will not get a chance while they are Cadets. Of course many won't get to go at all ever depending on unit assignment and branch. When I went to Jump school we had a ton of AROTC Cadets in my class. That was a long time ago!
