Hello all,

I was seeking clarification and information on nominations. I was honored to receive an alternate nom from my MoC. To put my mind at ease, is it still likely to hope for an appointment? I was told that they benefit college reapplicants like myself but I wasn't quite sure if that was true or not.

Sorry, maybe I'm overthinking things again. It'd be nice to put my mind at ease

I'm in the same boat as you, not sure what my odds are exactly. I'm still hopeful, but the chances of appointment have been lowered significantly from my understanding.

It depends what you mean by alternate nomination. If you mean you did not get one of your MOC's ten nominations and were told you are an alternate should one of the nominees drop out, then chances are extremely slim, unless you have a nomination from another source.

If you mean the MOC selected another candidate as a Principal Nominee and gave you one of the other nine nominations, then your odds depend on many factors of which WCS score is the most important. In any case you must be 3Q,

Having or not having a nomination this year has no bearing on next year, although college reapplicants do receive extra WCS points.

A reapplicant would be wise to contact the RC and get feedback on areas to improve. Taking a plebe-like schedule in Math, Science, and English Composition along with participating in ROTC is a good start.
