I’d say it’s mostly friendly competition. The people here are actually so amazing. People will help you in any way they can. I’d say it’s more team building and bonding. There will be some people that are more focused on themselves but that happens anywhere. Uhm my favorite part is definitely the people and also the immense opportunities we get from being here.Once at USMA is there a lot of competition among the cadets or is more about team building? What is your favorite part of USMA so far?
I’m assuming you mean daily schedule during the academic year and not beast. But if you would like a beast one lmk! What is your daily schedule like, including any clubs, plebe duties, and sports (intramurals or intercollegiate) that you participate in?
If you took any, how much harder are advanced plebe classes? I have taken AP tests that I would be interested in validating, but from what I could have to take a follow-up exam at West Point, and I can only move to an advanced section, rather than test out of the class.
Thanks!
What were your high school "stats" (GPA, SAT, Extra curriculars)Let me know if y’all need/ want any advice. Parents or future cadets. I’ll be checking this and responding periodically.
What is R day like? Do you get to come home before school starts?Let me know if y’all need/ want any advice. Parents or future cadets. I’ll be checking this and responding periodically.
I use FoxRiver socks in ROTC (and sometimes as my daily socks because they are so comfy). Do recommend! What is R day like? Do you get to come home before school starts?
I was told to get my daughter Fox socks. Do you know which ones are the best….? They have so many.
R day is a long blur lol. It honestly as really fun and exciting for me since everything was so new. However your daughter will feel glad when it’s over. It’s a very long and exhausting day, we get issued a ton of stuff that day and go through a lot of lines. A lot of standing around and waiting. We do not get to come home before the school year starts but you can see your daughter during A day weekend which I highly recommend if you can. I love fox river I personally brought a lot of them. I got the mid calf length. I bought more black socks than any other color because they can be worn with the W/G uniform. I got the lightweight ones and the maximum ones. It depends if she wants her socks thicker or not. What is R day like? Do you get to come home before school starts?

Honestly my stats don’t really matter because West Point at the end of the day will rate you with the whole candidate score and different things can make yours higher or lower. Just strive to be the best you can be in all aspects of your applications. I’ve heard of kids getting high 1500 SATS and not getting in because they were weak in other areas or WP simply didn’t think they’d fit in. I was straight A’s in high school, I did a lot of extra curriculars but it was only stuff I was actually interested in, not to just make my application better. My biggest advice is try and do really well on your interview and be yourself. If possible get close with your FFR or admissions counselor, they have some weight in your application. What year are you in high school? I can offer better advice depending on where you are with your applicationWhat were your high school "stats" (GPA, SAT, Extra curriculars)
It depends on your time management skills. I know people who are in bed as early as 21:30 on a regular basis. However there will be some Thayer weeks to where they can’t sleep that much. I’d say the average cadet is in bed by 12:00 am. So 6.5 hours of sleep is probs average. But it can vary depending on how busy you are and what you prioritize. How many hours of sleep is feasible each night?
If we can only make one, is it better for parents to be at R day or A day? We r in Ca so it is difficult to travel frequently to West Point. Thanks for the information.R day is a long blur lol. A-Day! You will only get to drop off your son/daughter on R-Day and see the oath ceremony at the end of the day. A-Day is a much more meaningful day and parade, and you will get to spend time with them that weekend and help them prep for the first day of classes. If we can only make one, is it better for parents to be at R day or A day? As a parent, I will second what @prospective2019 said. You should plan your visit for A-Day. R-Day will be a blur and you will only get the time you travel and two minutes at the drop off with your new cadet. On A-Day weekend, you will get nearly all day Saturday and Sunday to spend with your cadet. Much more valuable for you and them.If we can only make one, is it better for parents to be at R day or A day? We r in Ca so it is difficult to travel frequently to West Point. I have already applied. I have presidential and Congressional nomination for West Point.
