I am applying to USNA, USMMA, and USCGA. I am the team captain of our soccer team and have led the team to 1 district 1A title. I also run cross country and have been all district 2x and all region 2x, we are 4x district champs and 4x region champs and I’m currently ranked 3rd on the team. My SAT is a 1350, 730 on math 620 on Reading. I am number 1 in my class with a 4.5556 weighted gpa. For USCGA I scored a 257 on my PFE. The other CFA’s, I also passed. I have other credentials such as jobs, volunteer work, etc. but I will leave those out. Thanks!

Not a comment on competitiveness. Although your post seems to fit general class portraits (but competitiveness depends on your slate competition, and other unknowns). But have you considered filling out the sports recruiting interest inquiries for your sports?

Good luck!

I have emailed some of the coaches about playing soccer. Where can I find the other recruit inquiries? Do they have that on their website?

Yes! Try googling their Athletics page. Emails get tossed in spam. Or put aside for later. Or not even read.

For example, this is the Navy Athletics website, then the individual sport, and the sports questionnaire is a tabbed option. I’m sure the other academies have similar set ups. If you found coaches emails, you are probably in the right area. This is USNA’s Men’s Track and Field questionnaire:

If you search all of the other "Am I Competitive ?" posts, you will see they all read more or less the same...yes, on paper you have many of the qualities that "qualify" you for appointment. "Competitive" depends on other variables, many beyond your control , ie. how many openings you MOC has this year, how many other people are competing for the nominations, and how you stack up within each MOC nomination slate. All you can do is submit your application, and WAIT ...... Good luck.

What grade are you in and is there any indication if other civilian university soccer programs are interested in recruiting you?

My advice to my S or D would be

If they were looking to get into a SA based partially at least on their sports excellence, as opposed to sports participation, I’d tell them to concentrate on Navy, Air Force, or Army if they saw themselves as a potential D1 player.

. I have no idea how much their soccer would help them at CG or MMA.

And if they were seniors in HS and were not being recruited by anyone at this point I’d tell them to most likely forget Navy Army or AF as far as being an actual sports recruit .

Although playing and being a captain will help the application it does not mean they will see you are a recruit.

Being recruited puts a lot of wind at your back.

Soccer is a very competitive and somewhat subjective sport to evaluate for, so any player heading off to any college should get an honest appraisal of their skills to find how ready they are to play at what level. Maybe talk to a club coach for an unvarnished read. USCGA and USMMA are both D3 while USNA is D1, so the standards for making a team are very different. If you really do have D1 skills then it's quite likely that CGA or MMA would consider you a recruited athlete, but nothing is certain until you submit tape and get the ball rolling.

Cross country is very different: take your times over to the academy team pages and start going through the meet results to see where you'd place. Check out the other freshman runners, look at the times from other schools and you'll know where you might fall. (Keep in mind that there are other incoming athletes and you have no idea how talented they are.)

Also consider that you still need to get into the school even if the coach loves you. That means get after those test scores a little bit, keep the grades hot and stay out of trouble. Good luck.

Thanks so much for your response.

In general, candidates that are viable D1 recruits will already have had some college coaches coming to scout them and getting into contact with them. This is especially the case with Cross Country and other sports where the times make it relatively easy to compare performances across the different states and regions.
