Am I Principal Nom?

My representative called me about a week ago and told me I received their appointment (he said appointment not nomination) to USAFA for class of 2027. The nomination popped up in my USAFA portal this morning so I have that checked off. However, one of my friends also received a nom to USAFA from the same person this morning but didn't receive a phone call. Does that mean I am the principal nom? The representative also invited me to a media day in February but not my friend (he didn't call my friend at all).

It could have been a verbal error working from a list handed to him by a staffer to knock out in between meetings.

You could try calling a staffer for clarification.

The Representative cannot offer you an appointment. Only the SA determines if you are fully qualified. If it’s a PNOM, that increases the chances, but the decision is still with USAFA on whether you are fully qualified.

I haven’t searched your posts. Do you have an LOA? Then you are likely in very good shape.

It is certainly possible that the MOC mixed up the terminology and meant to tell you about a nomination. But, I think MOCs more typically call to inform candidates about appointments as opposed to nominations. Hopefully, you'll get some good news from the SA at issue soon to confirm that it was actually an appointment that was being brought to your attention even if it was done less than artfully. The SAs generally give MOCs a few days to make the notifications if they so choose. So, perhaps your "about a week ago" is off by a couple of days?

I called USAFA admissions the other day and asked how long it takes the nomination to update in the portal and they said they enter it when they receive it from the MOC but the candidate won't see it until the site updates. It seems like my site always updates at 10:30 am each day as that is when my LOI, LOA, and this nomination popped up in my portal but it could be a coincidence.

Still no appointment, even though my entire portal has green checkmarks, I have an LOA, DODMERB completed, and nomination secured.

I would relax. An LOA and 3Q and nom equals an offer of appointment.

It doesn’t matter what type of nomination it is. Nor does the timing of the update on the portal matter.

Ds got a principal nomination. When they called him to inform him of the NOM the MOC just said that he got their "highest recommendation". Didn't think much of it at the time but when DS went to complete his application for USNA he didnt see a nomination for USNA. So he reached out to MOC office and the lady in charge of coordinating with the applicants informed him that he wasnt nominated for USNA but was given the principal nomination for USAFA.

A couple of points here. First, many times the actual MOC doesn't even know what a principal nomination since they are generally just handed the candidate slate and recommendation based on a board. Second, don't be shy about reaching out to your MOC office and asking them what type of nomination you received.

We had no idea what the principal nomination was going into the whole process. Ds was extremely lucky and honored to receive one. He received his Nomination in December and Appointment in Feb. If you did in fact receive a Principal Nom, congrats, you are virtually guaranteed an appointment assuming your meet all qualifications.
