As many AMA threads get buried over time, thought I’d start another one up. Feel free to ask anything, I’m an open book!

It's been a looooong time since i went through I-day and plebe summer.... What are some things leading up to I-day you wish you and plebe summer you wish you had or hadn't done?

That’s honestly a great question. I have few regrets as to the time what I wish I had done during that time, but I can’t reiterate enough how important it is to spend as much of it with friends and family. Overall, I’d say my biggest regret is doing general strength training rather than calisthenics which you do over PS.

What were your top activities/sports and what made you stand out?
Just to stay anonymous since some of these sports/activities would give me away, I’ll list out some generals:

Multi-sport captain
Student Council Secretary
Lots of work and volunteer work
Leadership positions in my community/ helping organize events

Do you come across/know any Mids that were homeschooled? Always interested to hear any perspective on typical adjustment, how they prepped, etc.

How often do you come across mids who got in after 3,4 or even 5 tries?

I don’t know any personally, however I’m sure there are several each class. I do know some Mids who spent a year or two homeschooled when they were younger but no one with HS homeschooling.

I am not aware of any currently here, but I’m sure it’s possible and has happened. I’d say the most common reapplicants are college freshman followed by enlisted who did not get in originally.

Enlisted meaning, didn't get an appointment and decided to enlist and try for Annapolis that way? I have heard that's a pretty risky gamble from the pros on here.

Yes, that’s the case with a decent amount of the prior enlisted I am friends with here. It was certainly a gamble, but it just happened to work out for them. Personally I agree with the pros here it’s a risky move and NROTC is a much safer option, but there are a lucky few.

Copy. Out of curiosity, what is the prior mix USN/USMC? Being prior USMC enlisted myself, I could see going enlisted Marine to be the much larger gamble. Way too many things to go wrong IMO.

I’d say there are almost certainly more USN priors than USMC, but there are quite a few soon to be Mids who show up in woodland green and silkies on I-Day

In my NAPS class, we had a handful of Marines, a bunch of nuke school USN people with some others who came from other billets, and one Army (me). It was interesting that the bulk of the USN enlisted had come straight from nuke school. Needless to say, they did really well academically at NAPS!

There were quite a few of us as NAPSters that came into Plebe summer already 21 years old.
