I got it. Put the "value of the USNA scholarship" (I've heard scholarships count) which is about 90,000 per year haha

If you're not an O-1, then don't put O-1 pay down on the application...

I'd put what you actually are paid. Also, the AMEX Gold is worth looking into because it gives extra points on dining and groceries, might use it more than the Platinum benefits of extra points on airline tickets and hotels booked through AMEX

When I called they said they could not approve because I put the $15,278 that we make a year. Will look into the AMEX gold

I mean, that is what you make in a year, is it not? If they can't approve it because of that, then they can't approve it.

Amex has other cards too below Gold and Platinum they might be able to approve, and you can start an account with them through those too. I've heard Chase Sapphire Reserve is pretty good too for military

Yeah makes sense, I'm just confused as to how virtually every mid has an AMEX PLAT in that case

I've heard (from my kid) that lots of mids have them. I believe my kid has one. Not sure what he put down.

He definitely has an AMEX card, and the gazillion dollar yearly fee is waved. Gets the lounge at airports, a monthly Uber Eats benefits (or DoorDash, I don't know which), etc.

No, my kid's is definitely his own. I don't have an AMEX account at all. As mentioned above, they do financial briefs in each company by the upperclass to cover things like investments, taxes, credit, and such.

As a kid will find out, they will have 4,000 other financial consultants all willing to give advice during their time at the USNA. ;)

I will also say that I have both AMEX Business and Personal Platinum and Chase Sapphire Reserve, and the Chase card is not even in the same league.

Airport lounge is the platinum probably. It also comes with monthly Uber Eats credit. Gold comes with monthly Uber Eats as well, and it stacks with the Platinum Uber Eats benefit. I find myself reaching for my Gold way more because of the dining and groceries extra points. Can't do too much traveling in flight school...

Platinum also has a monthly entertainment credit, and you can use it on various services such as The New York Times, Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+. And a monthly Walmart+ credit

You need to use your actual gross pay. Not the amount you bring home. The number that’s before deductions (uniforms, books, for all tickets, haircuts, etc). Idk that number but it’s readily available.

Lots of benefits and protections for international travels as well.

My guy was on an international summer training and they used it to book their port hotel. And then they wernt able to port. The card covered the fees they didn’t get refunded bc of the late cancellation.

Plus global entry was huge.

@IronmanDaremo your kid can put YOU as an authorized user on HIS account and you get his benefits 😉 😬

Most likely because it's a parent's account. My 17y/o has his own Plat tied to my account.
No, they qualify financially with their income. But the credit score could also be a factor. One of mine was denied initially bc he had NO credit. Put him as an authorized user on our card, and AMEX actually reached back out to him when he had enough of a credit score.

*All this with the caveat to be wise with your credit. It’s not a good idea for everyone. Stay within your means*

Gotta start building that credit now, so they can get a shiny new Ensignmobile when they commission with the career starter loan

That’s a whole different thread. And a current topic of discussion in our house. Started loan plus nuke bonus = 💰 💰
