Annapolis voted #12

I'm a city kid. I grew up in Philly and Baltimore in great neighborhoods that turned pretty rough. And we stayed longer than I preferred. I lived in SF for many years and it will bounce back (non-investment advice/advice: buy real estate there).

I've spent plenty of time traveling to top 25 cities in USA over the course of my career. Every city has it's charms. It's up to every individual to determine what they like the most and what they can tolerate. I spend as much of my time as I can now at Mid store and beach place. :)

Guess what.

My favorite airline, Southwest, is having a 40 pct off sale to Hawaii. Today and tomorrow. Awesome availability, too.

I just booked a trip for a week for us.

Spent 300$ bc I’m currently flying free and we had some points for outbound. Only paid return.

SAF is always giving!! Wouldn’t have looked into it if not for todays discussion 🙏

How did I not hear about that sale? Is it only from select cities or is there a code? I may need to take advantage of that offer!

Also remember if you're going to fly Southwest and you have a Costco membership you can buy a $500 gift card for only $450.

Edit: apparently they're not available online only in select stores but if you're in California you have a good shot at finding one in your local Warehouse. I can't speak for other states.

Sams club as well.

I didn’t get an alert about it either! But a “TPG” fb post popped up on my feed. The rest is history.

Book by 7/11! I clicked in through TPG article link and the reduced fares were already loaded IMG_8527.jpeg

I've been to 11 of those 15 and lived in 5 of them including Charleston and Annapolis. They all have their charms for sure, but I can easily say they are lovely cities .... if you have money... I guess that's most places nowadays!

I thought the same thing with I saw the "criteria" they used for the choices. I don't think VALUE was placed as equally as the other factors. Most of those places are not cheap to spend time in...let alone stay long term.

My mom and I went to Annapolis in December to watch Virginia Tech play in a torrential downpour in the Military Bowl. We had never been before and we loved it. Got to walk around downtown, had an incredible sandwich at a place I wish I could remember the name of. We did a walkthrough of the Naval Academy and even though it was raining that was just amazing as well. Such a cool town and everyone we met was so nice. We had a total blast. Definitely would love to go back someday (in better weather!)

What's cheap anymore? It's tough to name much that isn't better if you have money to burn.

I agree and would not have even thought of it until I saw the value criteria. If you are going to make one of the criteria value, it is hard to then say some of the most expensive cities in the country are the best. If it wasn't a criteria, then I don't think it would be a issue for me.

Its like saying a Ferrari is a great car to own because we considered the "value" of the car in our criteria.

I did not even realize "value" was part of the rankings, so I can see your point.

Charleston isn't cheap, but it's not crazy expensive as long as you don't stay downtown. If you stay in North Charleston and just go downtown to walk around and eat it seems pretty reasonable.

I will say the downtown hotels are pretty out of sight. But I guess that's a supply/demand thing. If everyone was as frugal as me, those hotels would lower the prices or go out of business!

There are also a pretty good number of Vrbo/Airbnb type places through the Charleston area and if you get a large group together, that's quite affordable.
