Today's Veteran of the Day is Jefferson Talicuran. Jefferson joined the U.S. Navy in 2005. He deployed with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, in 2008 to Sangin, Afghanistan as a Corpsman.
Two months in to the deployment Jefferson was badly injured by an IED.
The Navy sent him to Balboa Navy Medical Center in San Diego, California to recover. Jefferson was awaiting a medical discharge when he passed his fitness and medical tests, restoring him to full-duty medical status. This meant that he could now apply for the U.S. Naval Academy.
2nd Lt. Jefferson Talicuran recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned as a ground combat officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.
