And for worried candidates out there, with this cheerful stream of “…got his/her/my LOA” as if it is the expected norm, (I recognize this phrasing is not universal, and many use “got an LOA” or “was fortunate to have been given an LOA”), and it seems like EVERYONE is getting one except you, and The Class is Filling Up Already, keep in mind:
- the majority of midshipmen and cadets never receive one, which means most appointees do just fine without one
- SAs can give LOAs at any time, for any reason, with or without conditions, in any number they wish
- many of these LOAs may have conditions that will not be successfully filled, and an appointment will not be offered. DQ with no waiver on DoDMERB, no nom, failed CFA, etc.
It has been often speculated here on SAF that perhaps the data set is a bit skewed toward those candidates and parents who actively seek out advice forums and resources early on or consistently to gain a strategic edge - hence the seemingly high number of LOAs reported. No way to know, and it doesn’t signify.
Focus on what you can control. Leave it all on the court. Tend alternate plans. And live in the present!
