Hi everyone.
I'm mainly looking to gain a deeper understanding of what happened to me concerning my medical disqualification, but if anyone has advice to offer, I'd really appreciate it.
Just as a brief background, I recently received a 4-year AROTC scholarship, pending medical qualification. Yesterday, I got a letter from DoDMERB saying I'd had been disqualified based on a "History of Anxiety Disorder."
I did have to point this out on the medical forms, but the problem occurred when I was in middle school, and was controlled by small doses (5-10 mg) of Prozac. I'm no longer on the meds, and I've been off them for 4-5 years. I haven't had any sort of relapse during that time. I tried to be as clear as I could about this on the forms, but apparently I underestimated how much of a red flag even the mention of something like this would raise.
I was considering getting evaluated by a psychiatrist and then sending in the updated information to DoDMERB, but I'm at boarding school right now and that could prove difficult. Furthermore, I'm not entirely sure where to send the forms, as my letter didn't specify how to submit additional materials.
Also, what are the odds of getting a medical waiver from my specific university? I truly think that this is no longer a problem of enough significance to revoke my scholarship.
Sorry if I've rambled a bit here, but I'd really appreciate any insight you have to offer.
Thank you.
