Multi tools and Swiss Army type watches vary widely in cost. Any advice on what to buy for our daughter? Do we need to go Leatherman or does a basic Amazon type tool serve the same purpose?
I gave out engraved Leatherman tools as gifts to my wedding party. 25 years later, they all remain in use and my friends say it still the coolest gift they ever received. Just sayin'...Leatherman MUT or WAVE are very popular multi-tools. SOG is another popular brand amongst soldiers/marines.
Cheap tools don't last. I would avoid off-brand stuff.
My DS is an Armor Officer and still has his Leatherman WAVE two years after commissioning and one year after a Middle East deployment.
DS returned from college on a break with a saying he learned, "gear adrift is a gift". I know it was said tongue in cheek, but I still got a good chuckle out of it.Plant the idea to tie down everything they don't want to lose early on. I shudder to think of the amount of knives and multitools that are lost over a military career.
I have carried a skeletool since R-day and it’s been perfect. I didn’t need a million tools…just a good knife, pliers, and a screwdriver takes care of 95% what I have needed out of it through deployments, working on aircraft, and just general field craft. It’s a great tool, and I was incredibly sad the day, eight years after buying it, when I finally managed to break one of the tools. Cool thing about leather man, if you hang onto the receipt, they’ll guarantee your tool for life so still rocking the same toolDD used a Leatherman Skeletool for CBT. It served her well, and she did not want anything different for CFT.
Not on the packing list. Not even on the optional list.I recently went to an WP Club event and was told that cadets will receive a multitool and other objects when they arrive to CBT. Does this mean that incoming cadets should not purchase a multitool?
