I see that applications opened up this week for admissions with the deadline being in October and early action decision being "By December 23rd" Is there any benefit to completing the application in July or August vs. waiting until October. Do Decisions come out earlier?

Yes, you have a higher chance of appointment since its a rolling admission. Also I am applying early action but the 2029 application is not giving me the option to create an account. Is that just me or does it just say this? I see no "Create Account" tab anywhere.

Hi! I login through my AIM acct and I cant see where to even access the application? It just says USGGA Application not started- but nowhere is there a link to start it?

There is no advantage to submitting the application early. It is NOT a rolling admission and the Academy does not extend offers of appointments until after the application deadline. The earliest offers are typically extended in early to mid November and then continue from there.

Focus on submitting the absolute best application you can, not on submitting your application as early as you can.

I have personal knowledge of multiple appointees that submitted their applications within a few days of the deadline and received early admission offers.

same issue here, I thought it was supposed to open today.
I'll be checking tomorrow to see if it updates.

During my son's cycle (class of 2025), he applied on the very last day to submit an EA application (October 15th) and he received his appointment offer on December 7th.

My DS applied as early as possible and got the LOA before his first day of senior year.

DD2 submitted on October 15, received her offer on November 15, and cleared DODMERB and accepted on December 23. No LOA received or required.

I agree that there is no upside to submitting early, just to submit early. The focus should be on ensuring that everything is as polished as it can be.

There is also no virtue in waiting until the last possible moment...

unless you enjoy torturing your parents.

Although I agree with the others that I don't think there is a huge advantage to applying early in the EA cycle, if you feel your application is strong then you should DEFINITELY apply in the EA cycle. A higher percentage of people are chosen from the EA cycle. Don't wait until the Regular Application period unless you feel that your application will be greatly strengthened by your first semester grades or new SAT/ACT scores or something else happening between Oct 15th and Jan 15th.

Any changes to the application portal?

This is what the site shows right now for me.
However clicking the button to go into bears den has let me start the application.
See the following pics.

Yes, absolutely. You should apply early....

This is a link to an admissions overview for the most recent class. If you skip to around 17:18, Cpt. Fredie talks specifically about the early vs late thing.

To summarize, he notes that the core foundation of each class comes from Early Action, if they like what they see, but want to see a little more, they'll roll you to Regular Decision.

He also states that "whether you apply EA or RD, the sooner you apply, the sooner we get to look at you. It's a first apply, first review process due to limited staff. As soon as we're able to get all the information in the completed application package, we're able to get it to the Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board for review. And then it gets into the candidate pool for the admissions committee. So if a student waits until the last day to submit an application, we're probably not going to see that person until the very end. So that's kind of a risky proposition for the applicant because you're letting other folks get reviewed before you. The key is, if you're competitive, try to get your application in as soon as you can."

That said, I don't think there's any advantage to trying to submit the day after the application opens or anything like that. You need to take your time and be sure everything is as good and correct as it can possibly be! Strong personal statements, polished resume to attach, etc. I think the major take away from this video is don't wait until the last day, or even the last couple of days - especially for a regular decision application.

For reference, my 2027 daughter applied EA, submitted I think Sept 29 or 30, so a full 2 weeks before due. She received her appointment on the very first day they started communicating EA appointments.

Class of 2028 Admissions Update

Is there a negative for applying Early Action? Seems like if you are not selected, then as long as you are competitive, you will be rolled over to the regular decision? If you are selected, it is non-binding, so you don't have to take the appointment. What am I missing?

IMO, there are probably very few cases where applying EA wouldn't be a good idea. Correct, if you're a qualified/competitive candidate, you can be rolled, and it is non-binding.

It would have to be a deal where the extra 3 months between October 15 and January 15 would enable you to make some sort of game changer addition to you application.

Only things I can think of would be November or December SAT/ACT test dates. You can already take them as late as October, get your scores and submit them beyond the EA deadline and they'll count, so I guess waiting would allow one last Hail Mary. You may want to wait for fall senior grades to include them in your GPA, but even at that, not sure now much it would move the needle. I think my EA kid submitted a copy of her 9 week progress report senior year just for a little something extra.

Besides that, maybe there are some things that could be difference makers in that short span of time, but I'm not sure what they would be.

Recommend instead of trying to apply quickly in an admissions window (early or regular), you slow down and use the time to strengthen your application. Perhaps have a teacher or friend proofread your essays one extra time or train for a few extra weeks and submit an improved PFE score.

The only drawback is if your application is weak they can flat out reject you, but my thinking is if your application is in the reject range I'm not sure how much you can improve your app in a few months. I would recommend applying early. You can always update your application. As new/improved info comes in.
