Any Prep yet?

I applied EA in October and have been following this forum since that time. I see that many candidates have already received appointments. (Maybe all of them have been awarded?) Congratulations to all who have!!! Has anyone received notice of Prep School yet? (USCGAS) I am just trying to estimate my remaining chances. :) Also, any word on whether they will actually make the Dec. 23 deadline for all applicants? It seems strange that they have decisions already but are only notifying those with appointments. IMHO, getting an Appointment Notice on Dec. 23rd would have been the greatest Christmas Gift! A Denial? Maybe Not....LOL

Not aware of any CGAS Prep School appointments to date. Looking like those will be released at end of the EA cycle. Rolling process has seemed like a trickle here and there.

Yes it would have been useful to know the order they have been releasing appointments in. I haven't heard of any CGAS appointments being awarded yet. I completely agree that getting a rejection on the 23rd isn't ideal.

A rejection on the 23rd would sting. I'm hopeful in the fact that there have been zero appointments listed on this forum from the New England region yet.

Yes it would. Also I am sure that there are still some EA slots left. I just got off the phone with my AO and he informed me that my application was competitive and to keep waiting. He also said that an appointment can happen later on as well if transferred to regular admission or waitlisted. Hang in there!

At this point, I don't really think it can be considered rolling. It seems like they are headed to a drop this week - or next Monday at the latest.

Oh good! That gives me some hope

Perhaps they are contacting all direct appointments to Academy before contacting CGAS appointees.

It would seem to me that currently they are giving out appointments to people who are going to be also participating on a school team. Possibly all the rest will come out the 23rd. I could definitely be wrong here though.

You are wrong. My DS is a priority football recruit and hasn't heard anything yet.

Do you think he might be a good candidate for Scholars? I hear that is the "Golden Ticket". I know that many athletes get those appointments - perhaps he will be in that group? My daughter went into this entire process knowing that a direct appointment was a reach for her (lower test scores) but she was hoping she might qualify for USCGAS. It's a great situation if they offer it to him!

FWIW, there were 26 appointments listed on this forum last year given during the EA period. As of now there are 19 this year. Make of that what you will. If you assume both similar appointment numbers and similar representation of those numbers on this forum, then were are -- hypothetically -- 73% done with EA appointments.

Conversely, my son is not being recruited for a sports team at USCGA (he's a boxer, but they've done away with that team for now), and he was appointed on 12/10. It's all very hard to figure out, but it is interesting to speculate and enjoyable to follow others comments.

Yes I think he is a good candidate for scholars. Just hoping we get good news before too long.

What is "Scholars"? DS also a football recruit. . . .

Yes one year at a Prep School either Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS), Marion Military Institute (MMI) or Georgia Military College (GMC). If they complete that year successfully then they are given an appointment to the academy. Because they have a years prep they are often seen as leaders in their class as they have picked up all the skills and behaviors needed to be successful at the academy. If your DS is a football recruit and he is offered CGAS then it will be either NAPS or GMC as MMI don't offer football.
