Any Prior-Enlisted Hopefuls?

The Falcon Scholars are the pilot qualified candidates that the academy thinks has potential and just needs to maybe improve their CFA or ACT/SAT scores, etc. The prep school are about the same thing but the academy looks for priors/athletes/diversities to put in those spots and doesn't require you to be pilot qualified.

Glad to see so many people This proactive about coming here.
Currently a preppie right now we received our appointments about a month ago. Most peoole got them as long as they met the standards and didn't do anything stupid. Well here's a few tips to try and give some foresight as for what to expect next year.
-The priors will be running basic next year for the prep school. I think this was brought up because people were complaining about the utilization of the priors. It should be interesting to see what happens. I think militarily it will be better for everyone, but once basic is over how will the relationships between the priors and the direct entries be?
-"never forget you were a prior, but forget you were a prior" I know it's an oxymoron but essentially what I'm saying is don't forget you're enlisted roots but understand you're a cadet canidate just like the direct entries and most of them could care less what you did before you came here. This probably be most important when during your freshmen year when you have someone fresh out of high school telling you that you don't deserve to be in the air force and you've already served your country.
- football players receive preferential treatment and that's just the way it is. It sucks and there's no fairness to it what so ever, but once you accept it as reality the easier your life will be. To give an example we had a kid go AWOL for prom and was suppose to be automatically disenrolled. He's still here and will be in the class of 2015
-the hardest thing to accept is that this isn't the active duty Air Force and the standards don't match up at all. It was very difficult for me to accept this initially especially when you see just blatant disrespect for the uniform and customs and courtesies all together. Understand that it's blearing process for everyone and the academy doesn't at a different pace compared to tech shool or enlisted basic
-they have what's called EI which is extra instruction or tutoring, for all of your classes. I highly urge everyone to use this. Personally I found it to be the most affective way of learning, and the teachers are damn good. The teachers are hands the best people at the Prep school, they will go above and beyond to help you if you seek it.
-establish a good group of friends. At some point you will question is this the place for you. Having a good group of friends really helps you get past the hard times and sets the blueprint for life long friendships.
-everyone will be fighting for your time. Wether it be academics or athletics or military stuff. Remember that you came here for academics and make that the priority. Obviously don't just say to he'll with everything else but there will be people who will try to make it seem like athletics or military are more important because that's there element.
-last but not least enjoy your prep year. It's been of the best years in my life. It truly is a learning experience for everyone involved so treat as such and you'll enjoy yourself.

Sorry forth massive wall of text. If anyone has any questions about next year and I'll try my best to help out

Is there anyone else here that hasn't been called yet regarding Prep School admission? The Academy's facebook page says 15th May is the deadline... I'm assuming Friday the 13th (Oh, the irony) is the last day we can expect a call saying we got in? (May 15th is a Sunday).

Yea I'm in the same boat. I've just got in my head that I'm not going but, I think most of the priors are still waiting as well. If you don't hear by the 20th than there is a good chance that we will not be going...I'm also pessimistic.

Do they make you retake the ACT/SAT like they do at the falcon foundation prep schools? Do you have to actually reapply for the academy/do you have to request any nominations or anything? Or is it just do well, and theyll send you an appointment in may.

Why the 20th? Isn't the 15th the deadline?

Yea its the 15th, I guess I just have wishful thinking, and I also know that my chain is kind of slow with getting information out. It's definitely possible for your CC to get notified and just forget to tell you or not realize that you haven't heard from your ALO or something. Idk I just want to hear yay or nay so I can move on and reapply.

Well apparently the deadline is now the 16th.. I don't know the chances of getting a phone call on the last 'extended' day but I'm remaining hopeful.

Also, just because you don't get told by that date, doesn't mean your commander wasn't told. If you made it in, you will see something in the mail, and you will see your online app updated as well. =D Keep up the hope! =D

My online app still says "candidate". I doubt my commander already knows and just didn't tell me. Either way, suppose I have to wait until Monday...

Well, I got home from a week of leave to find a BFE waiting for me in my mailbox. Hope to hear some good things from y'all tomorrow! =D

Yea mine still just says candidate as well. Hopefully my chain will notify me on if I get accepted, despite being on leave, and with the time difference (I'm 8+ hours ahead of Co Springs) I'll more than likely hear on Tuesday if I hear at all. Keep the hope, we are down but still far from out! Besides there is always next year, and if we bang out some classes we can probably validate a lot of the Freshman courses.

I called the Lt. and he said they were going to work through the weekend so we should all hear something this week. Dont quote me but he did mention the disqualification letters were sent out a while back so if you havent recieved a letter yet that is a good sign. Plus I realize I am not the only Airman who applied so I should really stop being inpatient. Good luck guys.

Landry I don't think your online app's status will change. Or at least that's what the academy facebook page said. "Just have to wait for your commander to notify you."

Hopefully you all hear some good news this week. I got off work Saturday morning and ever since then I've been fretting about this nonstop!

oh and thanks for the update JVE, especially about the DQ letters.

Anyone Received a BFE yet?! Counselor called me yesterday, and told me it should've been here 3 days ago.

I always see the "BFE" term thrown around. What is it? I've gotten a big yellow one, if that counts. It says I got in, with the confirmation forms inside that I have to turn in. Does anyone know when the other preppies will arrive to the prep school. I know we are July 6....

BFE = Big Fat Envelope with your acceptance/appointment. Sounds like you got it!

What you don't want is the TWE (Thin White Envelope) containing a rejection letter.

Oh, and CONGRATS AcftE&E! You and my DS should be entering the Academy together in 2012 (He is a Falcon Prep).
:bounce1:

Thanks again Blackbird. And congrats about your DS. By the way, what's a DS lol?
