Anyone else still waiting to hear back?

DS is 3Q and still waiting for an appointment. Has accepted and transferred a ROTC scholarship and will accept Plan C school by May 1st.. if the appointment does come in will go back to Plan A. Either way, still plans to be a 2LT come 2024. Best wishes to all !
Same situation here. West Point has always been first choice. But Plan B is in place. This is a lesson for all in perseverance and patience. I suspect we have more to come. Nothing will be as we expected for this graduating class. It is all a part of their journey...it will be interesting to watch this class come through it all...the stories they will have to tell....

I've been 3Q since Feb 3rd. From what my FFR told me, May and June appointments are going to be a lot more common this year than before because of the portal issues and now COVID-19. During a normal year, this begins to be abnormal, but given the circumstances, everyone waiting right now is still in the mix. I feel the pressure of waiting, but in the meantime try to sort out your plan B for USMA or just enjoy the spring weather!

DS went through it last year as a strong 3q candidate and did not receive his TWE's from USMA and ASAFA until May. He had a good plan B with leadership, academic, and ROTC scholarships to a local university and has really enjoyed the campus and ROTC life. He only reapplied to USMA this time around after deciding that was the only career route he was interested in.

He raised his ACT scores by 2 pts each on both math and english, which were his two lowest scores. Added a ton of leadership and volunteer work through his college. Had a 4.0 first semester taking the same classes he would have had at West Point. Raised his CFA scores significantly. Multiple nominations. FFR, RD, RC all encouraged him to see the process through. As a college re-applicant he had greatly strengthened his resume after coming so very close last year and they were all pushing hard for him on their side...

and here we are again on the NWL.

I keep hearing Tom Petty in my brain... the waaaaaiting is the hardest part. I asked him last night if there had been any changes to his portal or any recent communication and got a negative reply that he had not heard anything since the first of March. His attitude was that either in 37 months or 49 months he would be starting his career as a 2LT.

So, DS received the TWE in his portal yesterday, about 2 weeks after the 3Q letter. Gotta say, getting it this late in the process is super hard. He's handling it better than I am, at least on the outside. He has a great plan B, so we're thankful for that. For now we're just trying to appreciate all the steps and accomplishments along the way and how much he learned from each one, and change gears to focus 100% on plan B. But I'd be lying if I said it didn't sting significantly. :(

I just got me TWE yesterday as well. I personally am pretty devastated, but just remember that he can keep applying for many years to come if he wants.

Best of wishes for his plan B, honestly I'd just like to know at this point. I hate the idea of waiting until May just to get TWE. I actually got a TWE by mistake after the application was due because of that big glitch that also prematurely sent out some appointments on the portal. My parents were surprised by how calm I was, but I was freaking out inside haha. I'm sure he (and all of us) will be happy wherever we end up.

Baylor is a fantastic Plan B! I have a couple of cousins that went there! Good luck to him!
Thank you so much! We appreciate your post. It’s nice to hear from people who know others who have attended. We don’t know anyone but he loved all it had to offer

I have a ton of family in the area. One of my cousins that went there is now a doctor. It’s a GREAT school. Waco is small enough to still have a smallish town feel to me. He will do well there I am sure!

DS just got TWE in portal. Sounds like they are not taking any off the National Wait List and are going to have a smaller class then in previous years. Moving on to AROTC at TCU!
Did the letter say they were not taking any off the waiting list ?

I believe USMA is required by law to make 150 appointments of the NWL

Someone correct me if I'm wrong :)

This is a hard time, so many highly qualified prospects will receive late TWE's knowing that they were so very close to getting the appointment. Extreme disappointment and a very high level of frustration at not getting the appointment is to be expected and is perfectly acceptable. Keep your heads up and stay focused. If West Point is what you really want, go on to plan B and then re-apply in July. Take a couple weeks off to clear your head and enjoy being a footloose young adult for a little while longer. Then spend the next 6-8 months working on bettering yourself in all ways possible. Train hard to get your CFA scores up, do some test prep work to get your ACT/SAT scores up, and work even harder on getting your community service/leadership scores up. Once your college classes start, get to know your professors and spend some office time with them right off the bat... you will need 2 SOE's from them.

Although it might feel like it, it is not the end of the world... Keep the goal in mind and see this as just another detour that might delay you but cannot stop you from reaching your goal.

My DS received the TWE qualified not selected in the portal yesterday. He is fine and continuing with his ROTC and will reapply for a 3rd try, but his goal of serving in the Army as a commissioned officer is still on track. Me on the other hand is very disappointed for my boy but it just shows how truly difficult it is to be selected to a SA. DS has a stronger file than his older brother (USMA Class of 2017) but didn’t make the cut. DS is a college reapplicant, 32 ACT, 3.9 GPA, Boys State, Varsity Athlete/ Captain blah blah blah you know the deal. FFR announced on Facebook that there were 60 offers of appointment in our state of New Jersey which was mind blowing to me that DS was on the outside looking in. However I finally realized that DS wasn’t competing for one of 60 spots but probably for one of 30 spots or less across the state. Of the 60 I’m guessing that 10 are recruited athletes, 10 are females and 10 are diversity candidates which means as a white male DS is competing against all the white males in the state for roughly 30 spots. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that West Point wants to be a demographic reflection of the Army which is a good thing, my point is that it’s just hard to get the BFE because of all of these factors. The competition is fierce and I now realize why. Good luck to all and Go Army!
