Quick question for those attending The Citadel, my DS and I will be visiting this summer and I was wondering if that is when he should do his interview? Does he have to apply first? Thank you
The Citadel website is a great tool for finding specific details and answering questions you may have. The following link will answer a lot of your questions and provides details on Summer dates for informal interviews.

Note - "Interviews" are highly recommended. They will introduce the student to the College Admissions staff, and the student and parents gain a significant amount of information on the college and what Cadets will experience in the Corps of Cadets. Formal interviews during the academic year are necessary for an applicant being considered for merit scholarships (i.e. other than need based or ROTC scholarships etc. ROTC scholarship interviews are required and scheduled by the individual military services and are not part of the college admissions process). There are also Fall and Spring Weekend visits during which students that have applied to the college may spend a weekend on campus and follow a 4th Class Cadet, speak with academic departments he/she is interested in joining and meet with Admissions and other offices on campus. Highly recommended if time permits.
The following is from the webpage link above:
Individual Visits: Individual visits are open to all prospective cadets and their families. These visits include an informal interview with an admissions officer and a cadet-guided campus tour. Appointments are recommended. Choose from the following times:
