Anyone still waiting ?

DS was rejected today as well. He’s been on Plan B since last year, is very happy where he’s at and the options he has available. I will never understand how all of this works, his application was beyond stellar. We are extremely proud of him and the fact he made it this far in the process. However, we are very jaded and I definitely feel like a lot of this is who you know.
Congratulations to everyone. To get this far in this process is an achievement. Good luck to you all.
Please be aware - By saying “it’s who you know” may make you feel better but implies those that did receive appointments have not properly earned their place. It’s a competitive process - many stellar applicants will not receive an appointment.

Which is why I said I understand that doesn’t apply to most - I know of at least 2 instances where that was definitely the case.

We’re a military family going back to the Revolutionary War, it’s not an easy life and I am proud of every person who chooses to serve.
Our DS will be the first officer when he commissions, we were all enlisted.

Sir, do you think you daughter is going to reapply. I’m a college re applicant and got my nomination from my military professor. (I’m a second year student)

He was under the impression that he couldn’t as a contracted ROTC cadet. I am not sure if he will apply again if he is able to.
He received a stunning recommendation from an officer in his Battalion.

I know I am sounding very petulant and within a day or so I will be over this feeling.

Congratulations on your appointment and thank you for wanting to serve our nation.

PS - I’m the Mom.

Sorry, ma’am. You son should reapply because I was contracted for ROTC and it didn’t prohibited me from reapplying. If your son do get accepted then you will be unenrolled (for a good reason) and it will not effect anything.

My recruiting operation officer actually let me be contracted until the last minute because he wanted me to get the monthly stipend.

That’s great they kept you contracted for the stipend - it’s nice to know they had your best interest at heart.
Right now we’re just getting things set up for his next year at school. Who knows what he will choose to do. I will definitely have him read this. Again, congratulations and good luck.

My DS has a stellar Plan B with an AROTC scholarship. He cannot apply again to WP because he will be contracted - he is in college already.
He had the nominations, unfortunately he wasn’t good enough or didn’t know the right people to get the appointment. I realize not all cadets are well connected but there are more than a few that are and this process has definitely opened my eyes that fact.
Regardless, my DS is right where God wants him to be and I am happy and comforted by that.
I totally get where you are coming from. My son received his TWE from USNA last year the Friday before I-Day,

That is awesome that your son is attending college with an AROTC scholarship. My mom heart hurts for you and your son for the TWE. Don't allow your son or yourself to think he wasn't good enough. Awesome candidates get turned down from the academies every year and it has nothing to do with not being good enough. He either wasn't what they were looking for or they didn't have a spot for him.

My personal opinion (which I know doesn't count for anything) is that one of the reasons this whole process is so frustrating is because only parts of it are objective (test scores, gpa, cfa, etc.). The subjective parts make it so challenging because those are the parts less talked about, less comparable, seem to change from year to year, encompassed by the whole person concept or the whole candidate score, demographics, diversity, and whatever else they throw into the mix that is not shared and we have no control over.

Your son is on an excellent path with his scholarship and doing well in college. He is going to be a success whether he continues his current path, decides to give West Point another chance, or goes for something else. You must be so proud of him. He has already proven he has what it takes.

Even knowing God has a plan but not knowing God's plan and how it aligns with your plans doesn't make a TWE suck any less.

Best of luck to your son!

Thank you for your kind words and yes, it is so difficult to deal with all of this because so much is subjective.
The sting of rejection is already lessening for me. DS takes it all in stride, which that in itself will serve him well as an officer.
Like I’ve said previously, I am proud of any individual who chooses to serve, regardless of circumstance. Especially when the younger generations tend to get looked upon as less than stellar. Being on this forum for the past 2 years has shown me that our future as a nation is bright with the young men and women preparing to lead us.

It’s definitely rough. We’ve spent so much of our families time over the past two years on this application between countless area meetings (that weren’t always close), $ for traveling for nomination interviews and so much more. Siblings were on the ride too. But as my son said from day one, he wants to be an officer in the military and will go down any path to achieve the ranks. He begged me to enlist but I said he had to go to college. If your child has made it this far, great things are in store for such a leader. This process really teaches you about yourself. He will be likely attending UF on a four year ROTC scholarship.

Congrats and good luck to your DS. My DS said pretty much the same thing but…the pull of WP was there for him.
It has definitely been quite the journey to get to this point for sure. DS is thriving where he is at now and I have no doubt he will continue to do so.

Prep school!!,
Greystone is a great prep program ,allows your kid to have ROTC experience and college experience. Great program to get your scores up too! They have an incredible track record for free agent applicants.
They provide the structure and oversight for college academics and teach kids how to excel at an academy.

With the May 1 deadline quickly approaching and hypothetically thinking out load - can anyone answer me this?
If 100 appointees decline - are those 100 spots filled or will the # of appointees already have been more than the typical 1200 for the next class to account for those not accepting?

I’m no expert but I was told that the Academies will send out appointments up till R-Day meaning they don’t “over-appoint” candidates.

The academies will fill the class. Not everyone has received a TWE or BFE who is going to receive one.
Most will know by 1 May.
The appointment thread is sometimes the trick...you can see where someone declines and then someone else from the same state accepts an appointment. We used to ask congressional district...but sometimes you can see it. Kid from Utah declines, next week kid from Utah accepts.
Don't count on a USMA appointment after 1 May. It might happen but you have to move on with your other plan.
Several years ago the goat was someone who had been offered admission the day before R-Day. He took his chance and he barely made it through--now, he is an Old Grad and Army officer.
So, you will know by 1 May but don't hold your breath for a reversal of the decision.

Just to clarify @DrMom point above - you can receive an appointment after May 1. All initial offers must be accepted or declined by May 1. The Academy can fill in with additional offers beyond that deadline, there are just much fewer of those opportunities. I know it can happen because "way back in the day" I received an offer in mid-May (almost assuredly because someone declined). Until you receive an official notice of denied admission, you still have a chance. But beyond May 1, you should at least be putting a great deal of energy into whatever your Plan B is in the likely circumstance that will be your path forward.

Our DS found out today by logging into his portal he was accepted into West Point! No calls or emails and he also received a 4 year Navy ROTC award as well today. That was sent by email as the Net Focus is now closed for this year. Keep checking as they are still coming in.

That's how it was for one of my boys 5 years ago. Nothing for months & then a BFE on the doorstep in the rain.
CONGRATULATIONS!
I have to ask, are you all in NJ? Yesterday someone added that they had turned down an appointment from NJ--and sometimes we see that on the forum--but normally in states with a smaller number of cadets matriculating each year.
GO ARMY!

Thanks! We live in Arizona and our DS has to decide by May 15th for West Point.
