AOG Question

My son has been asked if he is interested in an AOG scholarship. We are a little confused about how the process works for next year. I understand that he must secure a nomination to be admitted for next year, but does the entire application need to be re-done - new letters, new essays, new CFA, etc? Or does the application from this year stand and just a new nomination is needed? Also, how difficult is it typically to secure a second nomination? Thanks for any information!

DD recently accepted appointment to AOG and her RC told her that her application from this year will be transferred over so things such as LOR's, transcripts, test scores, CAR and SOE's would not have to be redone. Basically she would need to update application with LOR's from prep school professors, prep school transcripts, retake CFA and new ACT/SAT scores if applicable. He told her she would have to secure nomination but did not have to win the slate. They can also use VP nominations for a prep who does not receive MOC nomination. In letter from AOG it also states they will submit LOR to MOC's on behalf of AOG candidate. RC's exact words to DD were keep grades up, stay out of trouble and we will see you next year!

Thanks Teragram! I was hoping to hear from you...great info. It sounds smoother than I was thinking. Thanks again.

As we investigate this further, does anyone know the approximate amount of the AOG scholarship?

If I have not received a TWE or BFE, and have spoken to my RC about this, should I be worried that he has not recommended civil prep to me? Should I contact him and try to pursue Civil Prep from my end, or wait for him to suggest it?

I have an appointment to USNA that I have to accept or decline by May 1st, but USMA is #1 in my heart and I haven heard from them yet. Does anyone have any advice regarding what I should do in my situation?

I say call him now. My daughter's civil prep just got "revoked because she was just offered direct appointment which means someone else is going to be blessed with an AOG Scholarship! Make yourself known! She did and she never gave up!

I would call and at least show your continued interest. There will be more appointments I'm sure considering May 1st is Monday and not all people have decided yet.

You are welcome. The process has been very easy and the different schools bend over backwards to help with getting everything in order. DD is very excited about this opportunity after doing lots of research and talking to the different schools. All of the AOG candidates will be assigned the same RC who will guide them through the application process for next class as it specifically pertains to them as opposed to other re-applicants who are not sponsored. If your son is offered and decides to accept AOG we have a FB page where everyone has started to get to know one another. I will send you information if you want to join when time comes :)

Definitely talk to your RC about your standing and mention that WP is your first choice and that you would like to know if civil prep is an option if not given direct appointment. Nothing at all wrong with asking.
