So how much does USMA care about the AP test scores? I did very well in the classes, however, I didn't do as well as I would have liked on the tests. Does it matter?

This is a non-answer because I don't know BUT I can assure you that all the Academies put a lot of weight on test scores of all kinds. The thinking that "I do great in class but I am not good at the tests" will get you nowhere. The Academies all run on standardized tests and you are tested, tested, tested on everything for 4 years and they all count. Get good at taking tests.

You can send your scores to USMA but regardless of how well you did, they won't affect your schedule. Class validation occurs according to USMA's own tests taken during beast barracks.

AP Classes

I don’t know what your goals are for your education. However, AP/IB courses are very important for non-service academy college choices. You have to remember not all high schools across the country offer these upper level classes. If you take the most challenging classes your school offers and do well, (A’s and a few B’s) WP will take this into consideration when they build your Whole Candidate Score and high school ranking. So, it is very important to the best you can on the standardized test, ACT/SAT. These tests are the leveling of your WCS compared to other applicants. You must take these tests several times. They look for three things: Academics, Leadership and Athletics

AP scores do not have to be reported if you did not do as well as you hoped. The tests are expensive and a lot of kids take the classes but not the tests. The tests that WP considers for admission are the SAT and/or ACT - not AP - AP tests factor into validating classes (skipping to next level) but validating can occur in their absence if you do well on subject validation test during BCT.

Forgot about that, my HS district paid for everyone's AP tests, so thats an additional factor I wasn't considering.
Very few AP tests affect validation, so their primary purpose, if not taken parallel to the class, would be for plans B through Z schools, for validation and admission perks.

Bulldog, that's not accurate. I'd stick to letting the people who have some experience with the validation process answer these types of questions

Apologies, but thats what I had always been told by people with experience. Are the validation tests more like a second chance to validate classes? Again, I apologize for not doing as much homework as I should've.

It is true that an AP score is not require because test administered during the first week of Beast help to place students into proper classes and provide for validation out of some classes - math, english, chemistry and into the next higher progression of math, chemistry. Where as AP scores do play a significant role for validating out of plebe US History and World History classes. I don't believe there is a validation test administered for these subjects, so AP test score is the only way. If you can validate out, WP will put you into a junior level class called Art of War (history class) as a plebe. This gives you two elective spots your junior year to take additional classes in your major. I would suggest looking through some of the old threads that include the AP test scores requirements. To validate out of these history classes does it take a 5 or maybe 4 or 5?

History requires a 5 - based on info posted by WP parent liaison on Class of 2017 moms and dads facebook page.

based on DS's experience, if you made 4's or 5's on any of your AP's you need to send them to USMA. And have a printed or electronic copy hand.

Yes, there are some published "you need a 5 to validate" courses, but there are others that are not as black & white. There are also courses as a yearling that AP's can impact.
