This is kind of a general question for all the service academies, but will sending AP test scores help my application during candidate process or do the academies not even look at test scores until a candidate is accepted? I am asking because I have taken Chem, Calc AB, Calc BC, Modern World History, and Stats and receieved 5s on all of them but receieved a few B+s in those classes.

I’m pretty sure they say the don’t take into account your scores for admissions, however, they do look at the rigor of your classes on your transcript. A 4.0 with algebra II and gen hs chem as the highest taken classes will definitely be looked at differently then a 3.8 with ap chem calc etc

5s on all of them will help you validate those classes if you are accepted. I do not think they factor into the app process though

Your AP test scores do not carry weight on your admissions application. The admissions team looks at your SAT/ACT scores, GPA, and class rank (though not the most important factor) to assess the academic portion of your file. As mentioned above, your AP scores may help you validate out of classes, but even then I believe any new cadet wishing to validate a class has to take a test before the academic year to test out.

The question to me is...how is your class rank? If your school just happens to be really hard and doesn't inflate grades then others in your school should have the same grade issue and your class rank should still be high. Could also be that your high school is uber competitive with 20% of the graduates going to IVYs.... USAFA knows your school profile and will adjust appropriately.

The only way the AP scores fall into consideration is through the AP Scholars awards. With those scores, you should be AP Scholar w/Distinction. That will get noted on your application as a national award. Look on your College Board listing for any type of notice. It comes with a certificate.

Yeah my high school is really competitive. I have a 4.3 GPA which would be top 3 at my old school but my new school I am 60/420ish. My school district normally has at least one person go to a service academy and multiple ivys each year but I don't want my class rank make my academics look bad because my school is really competitive and was wondering if sending AP scores would help in any way.

I have AP Scholar with Distinction. Where should I put this in my application? I didn't know there was a place to put that on my application

It will not matter. USAFA takes your un-weighted GPA, they know the school profiles, classwork, etc. Control what you can, CFA, interview, grades, leadership, athletics, essays... You can list AP Scholar with Distinction under awards or include it within an essay. No one else will be able to list their AP or IB scores either. It is a level playing field. The appointment and nomination process is about much, much more than GPAs and AP scores.

I ran out of places to put an extra award because I used all 10 spots. Could I dm you with my activities and your advice on which one to replace this award with - if any?

If you only have 10 spots, I would prioritize what you list. Emphasis should be on National, then State or Regional, then local awards or not highly recognized presenters. You will be asked for a resume that is freeform as one of your entries. This is where you throw the kitchen sink. I think the interviewers like this consolidated presentation to get a quick picture of the candidate and to generate further discussion points for their interview other than the required questions.

You could list it in the resume section of the application if you haven't already submitted it. If you already submitted, have your high school counselor email an update to your admissions team.
