I believe you can actually validate certain classes depending on what your AP score wasFrom what I know, they don't even care for AP scores, as you will still have to take those classes the AP class would've substituted for.
I thought that was only for naval academy.I believe you can actually validate certain classes depending on what your AP score was
From the 2025 appointee handbook: You may validate History 300, History 230, History 210, History 220 by taking either: a) the College Board's AP exam and earning a score of 5 in World History (for History 300), European History (for History 230), American History (for History 210 or 220) or b) the International Baccalaureate exam in World History, European History, or American History (you must score a 6 or 7). Validation credit for History 300 occurs automatically if AP scores are reported directly to Air Force Academy from the College Board at the student’s request. If AP scores are not sent to Air Force Academy from the College Board, cadets must bring an official copy of the relevant score to the Office of Student Academic Affairs and Academy Registrar (DFR). In regards to validation credit for History 210, 220, or 230, coordinate with the History Deputy Department Head. What courses can you take placement tests to validate? And so any AP history classes you took cannot be used to validate anything, correct?
Thanks! Although, my question was more inquiring if AP scores are considered and evaluated as part of admissions, or if they're only used as part of course placement after appointment. Course grades definitely are, but I've not found if AP scores carry any weight with admissions. From Academyadmissions.com
Can cadets transfer credits or validate courses?
When you enter the Academy, you will take several validation tests offered by the various academic departments. We accept scores of 4 and 5 on some AP exams and scores of 5/6/7 on some IB exams in conjunction with core course placement exams that you will take during Basic Cadet Training. AP scores of 3 will be reviewed on an individual basis. If you attended another college or university, the Academy may award transfer credit. Regardless of the total transfer and/or validation credit, a cadet must earn 131 semester hours in residence and must spend four years in residence at the Academy for graduation. College courses taken as part of a high school curriculum will not be considered for transfer credit. In all cases, individual academic departments determine whether or not to award credit for AP and IB exams and previous college courses.
They have nothing to do with admissions. Only the SAT/ACT scores and the statements of evaluation from teachers go with GPA and class ranking for determining academic potential. Leadership and athletics are the other two pillars of your application. Thanks!
