Please clarify your SAT scores. What is your GPA and class rank? Do you have a nomination? What state are you from?

Class rank is 47/194, GPA is 4.01, I do have 2 nominations, I am from Pennsylvania. My SAT scores are 630 Reading, 620 Math, Total score 1250. The academy has them listed as 31/31 in the application portal.

You look like a strong candidate to me. You have done all you can do for now. Make sure you have a good Plan B in place. Most candidates will go from "App on file" to "Hold" status before they receive a decision, so look for that to be your next step. Admissions staff was mostly gone for the holidays. Now they are having snow at Kings Point and may have shortened work schedules as a result. Most offers will be made within the next two months. I know the waiting is tough, but try to be patient.

DS just got an e-mail that he is now in HOLD status and has been placed on the national waiting list. What are the chances that there will be vacancies that open up in anyone's experience? He's not out of the running yet and it wasn't a denial, correct?

He's in a great position. Most are on National Hold List and very much in the running.

Hold is a good thing. Nearly every qualified candidate will be on hold. That status can last from a few days to a few months. Just keep repeating the mantra, "Patience is a virtue..." Most of us with kids in any service academy have suffered through the waiting with our kids (I've done it three times.) It is definitely tough, even excruciating at times. Try to realize that the process is in place and you and your DS have no control over it at this point. Enjoy your remaining time together and make some good memories that will get you both through plebe year. Good luck!
