So I have submitted all admissions materials to USNA, but I still need to retake the CFA (my last post explains it all.) Still waiting on nominations, but is this a good or bad sign? I plan to use the winter break to work-out and prepare for the fitness test, so I can do my optimal best right when the semester starts again.

All I can say is when DD saw the term "rolling admissions" she decided that a complete packet in front of the panel with excellent rank, gpa, sat's, medical and references but maybe without a maxxed-out CFA was the best option for her, even with the deadline not being until 1/31. She could be wrong, we'll see. How bad was your first CFA?

BB throw: 55 feet
pull-ups: 15
shuffle-run: 8.9 seconds
sit-ups: 95 (maxed)
push-ups: 62
mile-run: 8:05

I had a bout of pneumonia during the entire fitness test, and decided to send in the scores anyway. Admissions must have seen the mile-run as a poor indicator or an anomaly, so they told me to it was "highly reccomended" to retake the test when i felt "better"

Ok, that makes sense. It seems like a very good sign that they "suggested" you take it again, I didn't know they did that.

I have no idea if thats a good thing; i'll just try to embody Usain Bolt and run my lungs out on that mile HAHA

Did you ask the admissions officer or did they contact you? If the later, they probably would not have done it if the rest of your application isn't competitive. USAFA had reached out to candidates if they want to see improvement in CFA, not sure if they still do it. I believe if you can make some real improvement it will definitely be noticed.

Admissions counselors perform a review of the record before being sent to the Admissions Board. SOME (emphasis added) admissions counselor will let the candidate know if they should retake the CFA because it might not bode well for the candidate if the CFA will be reviewed or weighed more heavily by the Admissions Board (i.e. candidate with no/few documented sports). Some admissions counselors might even notify all candidate with satisfactory CFAs. I do not think the notification has anything to do with competitiveness.
