Application factors ranked in importance

Hey everyone, this is my very first post on this forum! I am a sophomore in high school, with a 3.6 UW/ 4.75 W, 1330 SAT right now but I am working to get it up as much as I can (hopefully), am in the top 15% of my class, play golf (varsity) and run track (JV), have around 100 volunteer hours currently, active in clubs, with 2 leadership positions as of right now(secretary and president/founder) but running for more next year, and pretty physically fit. I don't have much family in the military, and I know of many people who are attending/have attended USMA/USAFA. I also hope to attend boys state.

Anyways a couple of questions.
1) What are the most/least important factors in a candidate's application?
2) What are some areas I can improve upon?
3) Can I compensate with anything on my application to cover for a weak point in my app?

Also random question, but does being a minority have any effect on admissions?

I was an unsuccessful applicant for the co2025, but ill say what I've learned from applying.

1. Most important: SATs, GPA, class rank, rigor of classes, nomination, leadership roles
Least important: community service hours, attending summer seminar (obviously everything is important to your app, so this is just relative)
2. Def improve the SAT, try to letter in at least one sport, get onto varsity track, take rigorous courses (but not so hard that you get bad grades)
3. Academics can definitely make up for weaker ECs or sports. That doesn't mean that you can just not do any sports or clubs, but 60% of their evaluation is academics so having higher stats will help.

Dont quote me on this nor does USAFA say this but I've read somewhere online (don't know how credible it is) that being a minority MAY help because in the past few years, the Air Force has been trying to increase the presence of asians/latinx/minority in the force

As far as military family goes, I am unaware that lineage bears any influence on the process. A lot of folks interested in the Academies have military in the family because the awareness level is much higher than families with no military - not because the academies favor military families.

Grades in as difficult level classes you can with particular focus on Math and Science.
ACT/SAT
Team Sports
Demonstrable Leadership

Weaknesses in one area can be offset by exceedingly high scores in others, but there are limits. Really bad grades would be very hard to overcome by sports - even recruited athletes can't have really bad grades.

USAFA has demographic goals for admission. They try to resolve this through outreach to increase applications not by changing standards. This is something out of your control so I wouldn't give it much thought.

Service hours - you have enough and its not a requirement. If you enjoy it or find it meaningful, go for it, but don't add service hours simply thinking you are improving your chances.

Leadership - start a club or get involved in an existing one and put yourself into it. Do not go for quantity over quality. Better you are president or captain of one club than a member of five.

I know you said don't quote but here I am haha. I believe the same though, many other colleges are also trying to increase their diversity, SAs especially. I'm a minority as well, so I've been hoping this'll give me a slight edge.

Not sure how your weighted system works, that's interesting. Maybe you're taking all AP classes, who knows. Right now you're looking good, so I'm going to emphasize to study for your ACTs/SATs. They weigh these pretty highly. Not saying that having a perfect score will get you an LOA, there's plenty of people who get 36s and 1600s but aren't accepted. Plus, if you get a high score right off the bat then you shouldn't have to worry about retaking it. Saves money, and time to focus on other aspects of your application.
