I'm applying to USMA and just received an invitation for an interview for a nomination, though I have already received a nomination from another senator. I am a second time applicant and have always been told that I should apply to every nomination source possible. But my interview invitation said that if I already have a nomination that I should withdraw my application. They said that "additional benefit" will not be given to those with multiple nominations. They said that this is was passed down directly from USMA but this is the first that I'm hearing of it. Does anyone have anymore info on this?

I would assume by “special treatment” they mean would USMA give your application any more weight or value. No, they won’t.

But having more nominations gives the SA more flexibility in what nom authority they could charge an appointment to, if they want to offer you one. You would compete in more buckets, so to speak. The USMA website encourages you to apply for all the noms for which you are eligible, which you are doing. The elected officials can run their nom process any way they wish.

If this elected official is essentially telling you you won’t get a duplicate nom from him/her and to withdraw if you have a nom in hand, then you salute with a cheery aye-aye (I’m Navy) and comply. The SAs are well aware of which states’ officials collaborate.

Ok I'll email them to be sure, but thank you!

Can I be the jerk that says make them tell you no? Apply for all. Seek all. Advocate for all possible outcomes. Make them tell you no.

But that’s just me.

I know that every Senator and Representative gets to do things their way but I don't understand why they would ask you to withdraw your name. If they don't want to duplicate a nomination they should just say so and not do it. I'm guessing they are just being PC?
