I'm posting this here because there is no generic service academy forum.

The applications for the AFA summer seminar opened today. I planned on only sending an application to USMA's SLE but a few things have made me reconsider both the AF and USNA summer seminars. Should I apply to all 3? I fear that apply to them all (and should I get in, of course) could take two slots from other potential candidates. Should I had to pick, I would be unsure which one I had to choose of the 3 Summer seminars.

I attended both NASS and SLE this summer. Both were great experiences, and I enjoyed going to both of them. In my opinion, I would apply to an Academy's summer program because you are interested in the Academy. These are meant to be a recruiting tool-a glimpse into Academy life. Attending more than one gave me the opportunity to compare USMA and USNA. I was interested in both, and the summer programs showed me that USMA is definitely my first pick. I wouldn't worry about taking someone else's spot. Each Academy will pick the candidates they want, and you can always turn down a spot to SLE or NASS, I know of two at my school that got into NASS off the wait list.

My DD applied to both USAFA and USNA Summer Seminars last year. She got into both and luckily they were a couple of weeks apart so she did both. The only set back for her was when she interviewed for Girls State she told the panel that she was applying to these programs their response was that she would likely only be an alternate for Girls State since she could not commit to attending. And that is what happened, alternate for Girls State. Worked out just fine though as she just received an appointment to USAFA/2019. My advice...apply to all you may be interested in, worry about scheduling only if you have to, then address it. Since each of the academies has at least 2 if not 3 sessions you may be able to adjust the session(s) you attend to make it work. So, yes apply to all three. Good luck!

Apply to all three, than make your choice when and if the time comes.

Logically, this question is pemature as you have not applied and have not been accepted into any summer seminar yet.

In life, most things are earned. If you are a good student and earned acceptance to all three summer seminars, you EARNED it. You didn't take anything away from other candidates. If you decline, altenates will get in.

Try to go to as many as you can so you will be able to get a feel for which academy you like. Last year I attend SLE and NASS with an open mind and was planning on applying to both. I loved SLE And West Point but I figured out the Naval Academy wasn't the place for me. Make sure you apply early also to both.
