Greetings, everyone. DS was lucky enough to receive an offer of appointment to USNA.

I am a checklist guy. I compile checklists for every task and actually compiled some for the application process. Now that he has an appointment, I am compiling another one, and I don't know where to start. DW and I are total SA and military novices. The first couple items are plane tickets and hotel rooms for Plebe Summer and Plebe Parent Weekend. I have also seen something about getting him a passport.

Would any of you mind mentioning what else we need to be considering preliminarily as I-Day fast approaches? If there is another thread or website I need to reference, please let me know. I don't want to hijack the forum if there is somewhere else I can go. The Plebe Summer sticky was helpful, but it was advice as to how to handle the rigors of those first couple months. I realize there will be instructions in his permit to report packet and that when he reports, he only needs the bare essentials. I'm just worried DW and I will fail to consider items so obvious to everyone else.

Thanks in advance.

That is the Permit-to-Report Checklist for '27, so it may be slightly different than your son's, but that's a good place to see everything you'll probably need in one place. Keep everything in one neat folder and take it to I-Day. That's it, you don't need to be worried about anything else. Clothes, food, essentials, and a good dose of grit will be issued.

Your kid will receive a Permit to Report (PTR) around the beginning of May, which will have all of the checklist items you can think of for their actual reporting. They will find out their Plebe summer company as well in that timeframe, which will be an alpha designator along with a numerical. The alpha designator will cover two "sister" companies, and the numeric will be their actual company. Example - O-28. Oscar company for the summer, 28th company for academic year. The main detailers for their group will also be upper class from their academic year company, so they will continue to know them well. ;)

Typed in same time as that post ^^^

... recommend two binders, one for Plebe-to-be (hand carry ) and one for parents (backup ). On first page, place the Permit to Report Letter. This is the first one the new officers check before entering Alumni Hall.

If you don't mind my asking, why do you start every post with "..." ?

One thing we did was review the required shots and made sure my son was up to date before going. That way he was able to avoid being "jabbed" and possibly having any side effect feelings (even just a sore arm) in addition to I-Day stuff. I don't remember what they were off the top of my head but I think he got his Meningoccal B series and maybe one other.
