Appointment from AFROTC nom statistics?

I understand that there are 20 appointments to be given to USAFA candidates in the AFROTC nomination category. I was fortunate enough to get an AFROTC nomination a few days ago, but I'm wondering what the likelihood of getting in on it is. I'd assume pretty low since there are only twenty slots, but does anyone know about how many candidates apply with AFROTC noms each year?

DS did one year of his AFROTC scholarship before reapplying. He did not ask for an AFROTC nomination but did inform his ALO who told him he should notify his detachment commander. Which he did. I believe most of your previous application materials are still good (verify that) and all DS had to do was reapply and get his nomination. The key will be your grades as they indicate whether you can handle college course work. I would not be surprised if his detachment commander was contacted about him. DS actually met up with one of his former ROTC members in UPT. My point is that you don’t necessarily need your nom from this source. Good luck though with whatever you decide. Thank you for your willingness to step up and serve.

Thanks for your reply! Did your DS end up getting in the second time around, or did he continue through AFROTC to commission?

He graduated class of 2017. His detachment commander was very supportive. The situation may have been that DS did ask for nom but inquired too late as the number of ROTC noms had been reached. Whatever the situation he did not get a ROTC nom.
