Appointment Question

Sorry if this question was already addressed in a different post. My DS applied RA, and I am trying to figure out if they send out bad news whenever admissions makes the their decision like they do for appointments or if they wait till the end and do them all at the same time?
 
One thing is certain, April 1st all appointments will be released.

Did your DS get an email to complete the DODmerb?

Yes, and he is a double recruited athlete for Football and Track. His dad also graduated from the Academy and just retired after 20. I just can't wrap my mind around it. I keep going back to if they really wanted him they would have already called and offered him an appointment. So that's why I was wondering if they just wait till the end to give you the bad news.
 
Then have patients. Only viable applicants are asked to complete the DODmerb. So he should get good new by April 1st the latest.

Also have him email the coaches the may provide more reliable information.

Thanks, I'm trying to stay positive it's just getting hard as time goes on. He has recently talked to both head coaches and they have said to stay patient as well. Apparently their is no rhyme or reason as to how admissions works...
 
I am in the same boat as you. MY DD applied for RA also. She also received email to complete the DODmerb.

As of today no announcement from RA have been released.
 
Don't despair. We are still a month out. When they say April 1, they are true to their word. Look at any day you hear prior to that as a gift. If I remember correctly from last year, there were people declined, people waitlisted, and people who received appointments all on that final date. Fretting won't change the outcome (although I am succumbing to waves of fretting as well). Your DS sounds like a great candidate - I'll bet he gets great news!
 
We received bad news yesterday. Logged onto Portal, scrolled down and it said that application review had been completed- clicked on link and it opened a rejection letter. Beyond disappointed. No words to describe how disappointed and shocked- not even a Prep position. Devastated.

Unfortunately, It's a process known only to the admissions board.

So sorry to hear that. 2000 applicants, 300 spots...it still stings deeply. He is obviously a great kid with an eye toward service and leadership or he wouldn't be applying to a SA. He will do well wherever he goes.

Just to clarify. USCGA will only ask candidates who they find having a good chance of admission to complete the DoDMERB exam?

We did Dodmerb, surpassed all the admit stats and were waitlisted. No rhyme or reason sometimes

Passed DODMerb- no problem, Top 15% of his class, Captain of XC and Track (Class of almost 800, Enrollment of almost 3,000) National Honor Society, Multiple Clubs, Community Service Projects, Captain of Rifle/Pistol Team, 4.0 GPA, Honors & AP Courses all 4 years, Honor Roll every semester- not even a whiff, not even a Prep offer- so very disappointed. We went for the Cadet for a Day Program, he came home from that experience with USCGA as his top pick. He did get a Congressional Nomination for another academy (still waiting), but we are heartbroken. He seemed like a perfect fit for USCGA. He was looking forward to being part of the Cross Country and Track programs- just numb with disappointment.

Some cadets apply three times before they're accepted! Keep your chin up!
 
A large majority of the applicants to the Academy are highly qualified with good academics, athletics, community service, etc. I realize that it doesn't make it any less disappointing, but the unfortunate fact is that of the roughly 2,300 applicants only 300 or so appointees will be there on R-Day in June: 1 for every 8 applicants. Bon Jovi - good luck to your son going forward. His credentials indicate he should be successful wherever the tides of life take him. If he still has the Academy as his top pick, I'd suggest that he reapply next year.

Am I mistaken? Is not cadet for a day only offered to those who received? The same for AEP.
 
You do not have to be accepted to attend Cadet for a day- I believe most of them are held in the first semester before the RA application deadline. Our DD did receive her appointment a couple of days before we attended an overnight CFaD at the beginning of December, but she was EA and we had been scheduled to attend long before she knew she was accepted. AEP is only for those offered appointments.

Sorry to hear Bon Jovi, we know how much these kids invest in the hopes to become a Cadet.
