My daughter is a recruited athlete for USSMA and completed the 3Qs. FEB 9th, 2024 (DOD Medical review took forever)
How long before she will know if she receives or does not receive an appointment? Should she contact her coach, or just wait?
Any advice for a mother who is going crazy :)

How do you know she is 3Q?
Her admissions officer told her Fed 9th after the BCA was submitted she was overweight but has an 17% body fat so she was cleared. 1340 SAT and a 4.5 GPA a passing CFA and two nominations

I’m going to go out in a limb and say that no one here can answer that question for you. You’ll see that a common theme across all SAs is the “waiting game” - as all of these incredible students wait for word on their appointments. We all buckle up & hope for the best. The wait can be long. You can look at past appointment threads & analyze that data - sometimes there are trends. Also, USMMA moved their application deadline to March 01. I’m wondering if more appointments will come out after that new deadline. To provide some prospective - our #1 DS wasn’t provided a decision from USNA until April 28…..

That helps believe it or not. Thank you

Did your DD have to get a waiver that took forever or just medical review took forever. Also a Mother going crazy in lieu of DS going crazy.
Been waiting on a waiver 1 month & 11 days

No she just had to have a BCA completed and she did not need a waiver because her body fat was under 33% ( I think that was the correct %)

The waiting game!!!
I am not good at waiting.. I am call someone find out we need a back up plan...... She is Mom calm down if there was a problem coach would tell me and no I am not going to call and ask. :(

I would have her reach out to the coach. My son has been in communication with the coach recruiting him. He texted with him last night about the ACT he just retook a week ago and checking in. He is on the waitlist.

What sport is your son being recruited for? If you don't mind sharing what were his Act scores? This whole process is nerve-racking. My daughter has put all of her eggs in one basket and turned down 2 full-ride scholarships I might pull all of my hair out before it's over.

If you are a recruited athlete I think you will be ok. My first daughter getting recruited to USMMA had similar scores as your daughter. The coach said she would have no concerns of getting in with her scores.

Everybody needs a backup plan. If you haven’t already, recommend you start on one.

Agree 100% with the need for a backup plan. My DS was a recruited athlete as well and had all the assurances in the world but in the end he needed a medical waiver which was not granted until May 2nd ... AFTER we had already paid enrollment and housing deposits for his backup school. He's at the Academy now, but we would have been scrambling to get him into a decent school at the last minute if we had not "hoped for the best, but prepared for the worst."

do you think it was worth the risk? I’m in a slightly similar situation, I’m a recruited athlete and just found out today that I am 1 point off the minimum act math score. The soonest one is in April, and so there’s a chance I won’t know until June if I raised it/get an appointment. If I wait I’ll lose all my other offers, but I don’t want to regret not trying more to get in especially when I’m so close.

What is the minimum math act?

I think it’s really up to you if it’s worth the risk. No one here knows your entire situation, including what the other offers look like. Have you considered putting together a pros/cons list? Hopefully the coach can provide some insight too - maybe a prep offer would be offered? I’m just surprised that the coach didn’t discuss test scores sooner. Good luck 🍀!

I didn’t know there was a minimum math score. What is it? Why didn’t the coach mention this when he looked at your records?
