I currently wear contact lenses and am considering switching back to glasses... I was also concerned about the Army Regulations for eyeglasses since I hope to attend USMA, so I reviewed AR 670-1, and was worried about “Eyeglasses or sunglasses that are trendy, or have lenses or frames with initials, designs, or other adornments are not authorized for wear.” What exactly constitutes “trendy” glasses that are not permitted to be worn with uniform? Does this include glasses with transparent frames like the ones below (do the frames have to be a solid color)?

Would these (below) be appropriate instead?

Or are neither of these appropriate? I know this is a less-important question I can ask, but I just didn’t want to purchase inappropriate glasses and end up having to buy a different pair to wear after CBT, assuming I am accepted into USMA.

Whether or not something falls within Army regulations, some companies at USMA place greater restrictions on what is acceptable. You have no way of knowing to which company you will be assigned.

Also, as a plebe you don't want to wear anything that draws unnecessary attention to yourself, even if it is allowed. Buy an inexpensive pair of traditional glasses to wear during the academic year and wear your trendy glasses when you are away from USMA.

After a month or two you will have a better idea of what you can and can't wear.

I guess that would make sense, I’m probably overthinking it. Thanks.

Black, simple frame with not so obvious logo is OK.
They issue glasses but the quality is not good. DS broke 2 pair during CBT (one is his, one was issued) so we have to send his spare one at home which the frame is in dark blue. He was stopped a couple times, one time a captain stoped and reprimanded him for not wearing a black frame, he has to explain the whole thing. First thing he did when get home for Christmas break is getting a new pair, he told me he can get one at school but the selection is not great and he was too busy to go.
Hope this helps!!!

Thank you, I’ll probably just get a plain black pair. Hopefully they don’t break though!
