Are Babies Intelligent?

... so this post can answer the rhetorical question, "do I have too much time in my hands (maybe yours)?"

Since we talked so much about DDs/DSs at the service Academies, just wondering about your reaction to the question.

Last few months I've been watching multiple episodes on Netflix about research on babies' intelligence. This is a massive undertaking from all over the world. At the end of each research, the lead scientist would happily 😃 announce (with a big grin) that yes, babies are intelligent.

After watching the first few episodes, my reaction always, "duh, I knew that... don't need research." I still watched it every now and then less the happy announcement at the end.

Without discussing the spirituality part, I knew my DS was intelligent at four months old. So when I'm carrying him, I do the slow rocking motion. The second I stop, looking so innocent he would start rocking back and forth as if saying, "let's go lazy pants, move it." That's intelligent!

Both DD and DS were born in the broad vicinity of Lake Woebegone. I kid you not! So from Day 1, it was clear to all that both were above average. Just like the other kids. 😉

... guessing only but it's probably the water or that mythical show.😎

I did love Garrson Keiller on the way to work in the morning. It was Mythical? My life is ruined since I always wanted to move there.

I have to admit that on first glance I misread this as Are Barbies Intelligent?

(And in a further admission, my imediate answer was "Certainly more than GI Joe.")

Too funny. I admit I have remained quiet on the Barbie front. I had a “duty Barbie” for when others came over to play or I was invited to go play with Barbies. She had a woeful 2 outfits. I liked building sets. In those more sexist days, anything with with a boy pictured on the front. The doctor kit not the nurse kit. No other dolls (except for a nun doll given to me by a hopeful great aunt who was a nun). And board games. Barbie always looked a little freakish to me.

Okay, back on track now, babies, right.

I must be honest and say at the time I didn't realize how intelligent my oldest was.

He started walking around 9 months. Saying full sentences of meaning about 1 year after that. Spoke two languages at two.

Never seen him studying in HS and walked away with 4.25 or 4.3 GPA. Never seen anything like him in my life TBH.
