Are TWE's not a thing anymore?

I don't disagree, my only complaint is that my DS (who didn't have a nomination) should have been turned down earlier. It was an unnecessary 75 day wait when he didn't have a chance. I know people on here will comment about how he was in the running for something blah, blah but frankly I don't believe that. If a kid doesn't have a chance, then cut bait and let them move on. It makes you feel small to know they you were just hanging around thinking you had a shot, when you weren't even in the game.
Aren’t nominations required for appointment? If so, you should have known on your own accord that he didn’t have a chance. I’m sorry he felt like he had a chance but if you don’t meet the minimum requirements…

You don't need a nomination for NAPS or foundation. And you also are eligible for discretionary noms (although those are rare). Thanks for stopping by with your positive input.

That’s good to know. I was under the assumption that nominations were required to even be considered period and I didn’t know they would find a nom for you. I’m learning as well as I’m a parent of a candidate that is still pending. I’m sorry my comment came across as negative. It wasn’t intended that way.

@USMC Crayons , my kid got an LOA at the end of November in his first cycle. We were excited. Three MoC interviews he told them (humbly) that he received that and only needed a nom to secure his appointment. They didn't give him one. None of them. He got one for USAFA and USMA - to which he didn't even apply - but not to the USNA.

End of May, 6 months later, still no nom, still outstanding LOA, multiple communications with Noms and Appointments, got his TWE.

So yeah, I get the bitterness and what-the-f**kery. But, they did want him, and they spent the time seeing what they could come up with for discretionary noms. Unfortunately, he just wasn't at the top for them.

A year later, and more hard work, including a PNS nom from his NROTC unit, which he was a non-scholarship college programmer, he got in. Don't give up the ship.

Last year, my kid got TD'd early in the process. He had 4 noms, Varsity HS football, JROTC, a bazillion volunteer hours. It didn't matter. I knew his app was lacking. GPA not high enough, ACT score etc. He was bounced Mar. 2. No TWE, nothing from Annapolis, not a thanks for stopping by, not a thanks for applying, not even an after dinner mint. He was hopeful for at least a Foundation Scholarship, or NAPS and would have happily taken either. It was nothing, zero, zilch, still no after dinner mint. All good. He flat told me what he wanted to do, and knew what he had to do. It was suggested in his Congressional interview he go to MMI, or similar school to mature, I'd say "get seasoned". They said they would happily offer an appointment to USMMA yet he still received a nom for USNA/USMMA from all 3 MOC's plus his honor school nom. This cycle, he was a Principal Nominee and received his appointment. I was under the impression you had to have a nomination, I'm sure I read that in these threads, mulitple times, or your chances were very slim. The point is, it's possible, probable they tried to find a spot for your youngin', which may be why it took so long. It just didn't work out, but there's always a next time, if that's what he wants. The more you know, the more you know. BUT, I've seen when someone disagrees/doesn't agree with something you say, you feel the need to question their positivity or negativity. as Neil would say, "lash out irrationally". Not necessary. There's a LOT of emotional capital, financial capital and nerve racking errand running getting things lined out, and that doesn't include the countless times we've stayed on them to finish their apps. We're all stressed from a process Annapolis never told anyone about, nor are they obligated to. We're parents and all of us want this for our kid. My job was to help him get there, he still has to do the hard stuff. The postive thing is, your kid made it 75 days in, the negative, it didn't work out. We all have a story
