Are Watches Regulated?

I know watches that connect to the internet are a definite no-no.

Would I be allowed to bring a G-shock?
 
Bring a G-shock Casio watch for beast and then you can use whatever you want for the school year. Keys for watches is can you read it in pitch black light and does it have an alarm you can turn on and off.

I think that would be a no there. The intent is to test your ability to read a compass and map.

During Beast, watches are regulated, after that it is covered in an Army Regulation.

I think I meant to say G Shock..not Garmin :) Whatever the one is without the bells and whistles.

So during beast could i not wear my vivosmart (hr and gps, no display of maps or Wi-Fi)?
 
I would bring a watch that allows you to set multiple alarms, and is very loud. When I went through beast, there was basically no time during the day to go to the bathroom at a comfortable rate, so I would just set an alarm for 0300 each day and go to the bathroom then, as no one would be rushing me to finish up my business. I would also set alarms a couple minutes prior to wake up time, as it is more enjoyable to wake up to a beeping sound rather than someone banging on your door and screaming at you. It also gives you time to shave and brush your teeth, as you won't be given an adequate amount of time to accomplish these tasks if you decide to let the cadre wake you up each morning.
 
My DD is an incoming plebe so what I purchased for her was based on basic web research. I bought her a Casio G shock 300A I believe which has the smaller face as she did not want a huge watch. Has all the basics and I got it on sale for $60. For Christmas I bought her a Suunto Military Style watch that has a Compass, Baraometer and Altimeter. It has no connectivity so it can be used for landNav. I just read a very disturbing article on MSN about deployed military linking their fitbits to an App called Stravo that tracks jogging routes and posts them online. So in essence someone can zoom in areas of Syria and Afghanistan to pinpoint troop locations. I would think the military will be addressing this pretty quickly!
 
Depending on cadre, you probably will not be allowed to wear any kind of smart watch during CBT and definitely not during land navigation or the type which could leave you hurting as having a watch is pretty key tool to have. During the school year, you can wear whatever you want. Professors may limit smart watches during exams the same as cell phones but any other team, shouldn't be a big deal.

Thank you! So I should be good to bring the vivosmart as long as i bring a "standard" watch for CBT?

Yep, I had a garmin to run with while there. Shouldn't be a big deal after CBT.
 
I swear by *Edited by Moderator* It has a vibrating alarm, you can swim with it, and it has a 10-year battery.
The vibrating alarm is the best feature, because it wakes you up, or you can feel it when everything around you is too loud to hear a beep.

Unless you have money to burn, buy a cheap(er) watch for Beast. It's not uncommon for them to get broken during Beast due to the kinds of activities you do. They really take a beating. They also sell a decent watch at the C store on post (around $30 I think) and that will work well also. Wait before going broke on a watch. The fancy ones just aren't necessary.
