I read here, there, and everywhere that there were festivities prior to the Army Navy game pre-covid. 2024 parent here - first game was in West Point (blah blah blah) and last year was in the Meadowlands, but it seems the return to Philly might mean a possible return to Pre-Covid times? What is there to look forward too? Must sees/Must dos? Obviously, plans may change but would be nice to know what MIGHT be in store for visitors.

Since it’s in Philly, the “home of the game,” their sports coalition website is up and running:

There is usually an Army-Navy sports event involving mid and cadet teams racing up the famous Rocky stairs and other fitness events.

There is usually a pep rally at the Arch St. Mall.

Cross your fingers there is a boxing smoker at one of the hotels!

The USNA Alumni Assn usually has a full-on pre-game tailgater buffet event.

One thing that might be nice is that you could make it a weekend with your mid. 2/C and 1/C are usually allowed to travel independently to the game, so your mi could drive up on Friday and visit with you before they have to show up on Saturday AM. It is mutually beneficial because the busses leave the Yard ~0430. A lot of mids also spend the whole weekend in Philly, so you could get a quality weekend with your DS/DD.

One of my favorite pre-game traditions are the ball run, the flyovers (as much as I cheer against Army that day, seeing their Apaches makes you feel proud to be part of the same team on the battlefield), and the prisoner exchange.

Army-Navy is sort of "going on tour" for the next few years. 2023 will be in Foxborough, MA, 2024 will be in Landover, MD (Washington, DC), 2025 will be in Baltimore, 2026 will be back in East Rutherford, and 2027 will see a return to Philly. That roughly gives both Army and Navy two "home games" each. Philly is considered the designated neutral site.

Ha Ha! I wish! Mid has one set of plans - and they don't include me - which means I have another set of plans. All good! I respect the desire to do the friend thing and not the mom/dad thing!

Too bad the Blue Horizon is closed. No better place in Philly for a smoker. An unbelievable boxing venue in its day. Had a B-school classmate who paid his tuition fighting once a month on their Tuesday night cards.

I've only been to one (and it was in Philly) but it's a great time. I never did all the stuff on days leading up to it, but for the game itself, you need to get into the stadium early (say no later than 11:45AM) to see the march ons. Even if you've seen it at home games in Annapolis seeing both academies is really special. Only bummer is after they're done (say 12:30-12:45PM) then there's not a lot to do until the game gets closer around 3:30PM, and I don't think you can leave and reenter the stadium. Plenty of good food options inside the stadium (Chickie & Pete's is always good) so just plan on standing in line with everyone else, and hordes of cadets and midshipmen. We met some exceptional midpshipmen in line when we were there - great representatives of the brigade. Certainly a great time.
