Army ROTC scholarship AND track scholarship?

I have a bit of a dumb question that hopefully someone can give me some insight on. I recently received a 3-year Army ROTC scholarship to The Citadel, and am taking it. However, I am also a 4- year varisty track runner. My 400 best being a 49.7, 200 being 23.1, and my 800 being a 2.00.00. If I were offered a partial or full track scholarship, (checked The Citadel's track times, I think I have a good shot) could I pocket the money the school gives me to run and save it for a future house/family? Or doesn't it work that way?

I'm pretty sure you don't get to pocket the money. If offered partial or full scholarship from The Citadel for any reason, it will pick up any part that the AROTC doesn't pay for and that will be all that you get. Basically, you will not have to pay anything out of your pocket for your education.

I can't speak for the AROTC side of it because DS only has experience with the Citadel side of scholarships. Using DS as an example. He has a full scholarship. Each semester the Citadel credits his account. As the semester progresses the school subtracts payments for various things. If his account goes into the red, the school then adds funds to pay for the additional semester costs. The next semester the same thing happens. He is not provided a dollar amount to manage. In fact, DS was advised that if he went crazy with uniforms or if his EE books were over the top he might have have to pay for some of those expenses.

@Brodie07.....good information to know, my son has just received the Citadel Scholars' Scholarship (full ride), for Class of 2016 and I was wondering how it would work.

it is also possible to have an ROTC scholarship and an academic scholarship but the same rules apply, additional scholarships only pay the difference between costs and ROTC scholly (if there is any) and nothing more.
