My son is a freshman on a 3 year ROTC Army scholarship. It's been a series of delays out of our control. Invite for exam was never received this summer, then delay in scheduling during the fall, Eye Exam clinic made a mistake on the form, had to return for additional testing from them, hearing test was never submitted, website went down etc. Now he has one waiver "awaiting remedial" for using an inhaler after age 13. He does not have asthma. He has not used an inhaler for at least 4-5 years, probably never needed one. Anyway, his waiver now says "awaiting remedial" since 1/27/23, although we don't know what that is yet. Is there anything the battalion can do to assist the process? Unfortunately if his waiver is not granted for ROTC, he's going to have to come home and attend a local school. Trying to make plans for next year for housing and all the things. Perhaps he should have stayed local to begin with, but that's not what he decided. Getting nervous that we may not know in time for him to figure out what to do for fall. Just wondering what to expect here. Thanks.

Not sure Battalion can help DQ's and Waivers, they are usually made farther up the chain and by medical types, not operational types like Battalion.
A suggestion while he is waiting, if he is attending a top school, and received an ROTC Scholarship he is a bright, motivated student. Make sure you fill out his FAFSA, there is a lot of federal Grant and Loan money available, PLUS, talk to his Financial Advisor at his current school, they may offer him enough "in house" money that coupled with maybe a Pell Grant or Stafford Loan would allow him to stay where he is. The FAFSA Website has a worksheet that YOU can go into and put in your income and deductions and get an exact figure on "Expected Family Contribution". This is what you as a family may be expected to have to pay after all the AID is calculated, AND he can take a student loan to cover that.

Don't bolt to your "home" school until you have at least figured out what "other" financial AID he can get, good Universities usually have GREAT endowments that give out in house funds to deserving students. His Battalion may even have in house money to help.

It's a good idea to make sure your Plan B (the home state school) is lined up and ready, but don't abandon your son's dream school until you have exhausted your financial options.
