So I won a four year scholarship for Army ROTC but I’ve been told I will be medically disqualified because I recently tore my ACL and won’t receive scholarship benefits until I’m cleared again (which likely won’t be until after first semester or maybe the first year). I’ve been told there’s a chance I could get back pay for the scholarship later on after I’m cleared. Has anyone ever heard of this and could it happen?

I would suggest that you check with your cadre on this, but your scholarship benefits will not start until you have been qualified by DoDMERB and completed the other requirements to contract. If you satisfy all requirements during your 1st semester, you should be eligible for backpay of your tuition/room & board - probably not stipend. If you satisfy requirements after end of 1st semester you are most likely responsible for all costs incurred during 1st semester. Good luck.
