AROTC college major question

I was reading another thread and a parent spoke about your "major now matters when getting assigned at graduation" or something to that affect.
We have heard a couple of active duty guys say it doesn't matter what your major is and to prepare for life after the Army by getting a degree you can use when you get out.

It's really late and I'm tired so I hope I make sense but if anyone can let shed some light on this it sure would help. Thanks.
 
There is an OML differential for the academic component with some majors (STEM) and there are some majors such as engineering and finance which have an advantage in branch selection and AD.

Of course that's the "today" version. It seems to change almost every year either on the OML formula or the assessions model.
