I have read through most of the current postings, and I am now officially in information overload. Also, since there are many differences in the processes for the different military branches, I am a still a little confused, so please bear with me.
My son is currently a junior in high school. He has decided that he definitely wants to join the Army after college and therefore has decided to go the ROTC route. Although we are definitely willing to pay for his college education if need be, we would obviously rather put that money elsewhere for him if possible. Therefore, he will be applying for the AROTC scholarship.
Here are my questions:
1. The application process for the 2015-2016 school year will open in February of 2014, correct? However, from what I've read here, the first scholarship board does not meet until October 2014. Is there any benefit to having the application completed early? From what I've read, there doesn't appear to be, and in fact waiting gives the student the most opportunity to get the best test scores, etc.
2. I read that the Army super scores the ACT. Does this apply to the SAT as well?
3. Currently, my son's top school choices are all OOS or private. He'll be choosing an in state school as well, but is one in state choice sufficient? For the out of state choices he needs to be in the top percentage of the applicants for that school to have the best chance of scholarship, right?
4. I haven't read much on the formers regarding JROTC programs. Does being in his HS JROTC (and potentially being Battalion Commander his senior year) give him any advantage in receiving a scholarship?
Thanks in advance for your patience and assistance.
