AROTC Scholarship Summer Training

Pretty intense jc.

I will have to give that a try, but I will have to work on building up my stamina/endurance first. Right now I can only do about 3.5-4 miles at a leisurely/jogging pace before completely crapping out. Something to work for and I have a few months to work on it. Running is probably my biggest weakness, but I'm working on it.

My local H.S. (w/ a track) is about 1.5 miles from my house, so I can take a nice jog over there and do the interval training.

I applied for NROTC, still haven't gotten a scholarship yet, so this might be a moot point, but I'd like to get in better shape regardless of whether or not I do NROTC.

4-mile runs help great for the 2-mile APFT. Additionally throw in some sprints to prepare for the last leg of the 2-mile

Don't let the award/non-award of an NROTC scholarship deter you. Although there is a lot of talk around here about scholarships, the REAL value is earning the commission.

The experience one gains as a commissioned officer in the armed forces of the United States will create MUCH more earning power over a lifetime than any scholarship can hope to provide. It is a definite distinguishing factor to have on any resume.

Very good points.

But for right now I am training as if I do have the scholarship and working towards the Navy's standards. And if I don't get a scholarship, I will still continue...gonna have to be in shape for OCS after college!
But by then I hope I don't really have to worry about it as much, i.e. being in much better shape than I am now.

A great workout for the 2 miles once you have the endurance to knock out 5 miles easy is ladders. On your school track do a 400, 600, 800, 1000, then 1600 at your two mile pace and then do the same backwards. This should get you the footspeed to maxout on the 2 mile.
