We did today, though we had already registered and started working on it.

You don't need the email. Just go to the DODMETS website and use your DS/DD SSN and Last Name to log in and get started.

The Sul Ross is in addition to the ROTC and Patriot Scholarship (the Corp room & board scholarship). We are an OOS family. The only issue we had was that when my first son had additional scholarships that were one off for first semester, it screwed up his scholarship payments second semester because the school assumed that he would continue getting them. It was a bit of a mess, but we were able to get reimbursed eventually. Any scholarships above ROTC will be applied to fees, etc. that ROTC does not cover.

How much does a letter of recommendation help your chances of getting a scholarship? I didn't receive one the second board, but I'm really pushing hard for this 3rd board. I don't want to waste my time reaching out to coaches and past principals if it will make no difference. Thanks!

If you've already been boarded, no one is even going to look at your file again. Unfortunately LORs cannot help you at this stage of the game.

Do you think my military professor of science would be able to get them to relook at my application? Is it worth sending him an email over?

My hunch is it is highly unlikely, as they are adamant that each candidate is boarded only once. So, regardless of what board you compete in -- October, January or March -- your file is looked at by ONE board and scored ONE time.

The only way to increase your Whole Person Score after being boarded is to submit higher ACT/SAT scores or higher PFA scores. That will add some points, but again, my understanding is that once you are boarded, you simply sit on the Order of Merit List for ongoing consideration, but no one is going to "re-evaluate" your application.

Sorry I cannot be more encouraging. Hopefully, you just missed the cut last time and you're a shoe-in for an offer in March.

Okay, I appreciate your help and your timely responses. I'll just hope that I get it next board. I dont want to 100% rely on a local scholarship, especially with my desired school tuition being very expensive (Florida Institute of Technology). We'll see how it goes- thanks again!

My son is AROTC scholarship winner so today, he marked on one of schools in the winner letter, singed, and uploaded it into his portal. That's all? He checked back to his portal and the letter uploaded was in green. Is there anything he should do to secure his scholarship offer? Thank you.
